I thought "Drop Zone" was a Paramount movie with Wesley Snips? How would leaving off "Stunt Tower" make any difference? lol

^ Drop Zone was a flop of a movie from Wesley Snipes.

I bet they get the naming rights for free. lol

I hope they don't change it to Power Tower. Please no.

I hope they change the entrance to the park. It is crazy to have everyone funnel into that small building. I hope they make the park friendlier and the ride ops friendlier. Have them tell you about the ride and ask how your ride was.

Im dying to hear how the park can be made friendlier, even more so than it already is. Also what do you want them to tell you about the ride...you want them to yell out ride specs over the intercom and give pop quizs to see who is listening?

^ I have to agree with Jarvis.

While I'm not ready to say that Carowinds is a friendly as Dollywood or Holiday World, they are very friendly and the friendliest of the Paramount...er... pre-Cedar Fair parks I've been to.

I think you have a better chance of getting you some than getting that hyper that you keep wishing for.

Drop Zone was a (flop of a) movie, yes. But Paramount Parks could easily just drop the 'Stunt Tower' portion if Cedar Fair drops all Paramount Licensing, because although Drop Zone is the name of a movie, I can name a ride Drop Zone without any refrences to the movie and not infringe on any rights.

In fact, other people have. There are already drop towers around the U.S. and world called Drop Zone. Some just Drop Zone, some with added stuff (Slingshot Dropzone at Family Kingdom).

See, Drop Zone was a phrase used before the movie. Cedar Fair could eaisly just drop the 'Stunt Tower' portion (Because Paramount already has the phrase/name "Drop Zone Stunt Tower" Licensed) if they want to not re-name the drop towers.

Licensing, Trademark, and Copyright (as well as patent) Laws/agreements are interesting to read up on. It gets somewhat complicated, esp. in things like this where you have different companies using the name Shockwave (which is used by permission by Paramount Parks and SFI and other parks worldwide), or even things like the Scooby Rides.

Long Story Short, Hanna Barbera was once owned by the company that built Kings Island (and then Kings Dominion, which then eventually became KECO, then Paramount Parks), and had all the rights to those characters to use at their parks (a la Disney).

However, when things were sold and what not, eventually Hanna Barbera was picked up by Time Warner. At the time, Time Warner owned SFI. So since the Current SFI has licensing agreements with Time Warner, they got licensing rights to those characters.

Well Paramount Parks had those characters licensed from Time Warner also under a previous agreement when the characters were sold to Time Warner. Confused yet?

But anywho, back O.T. about Drop Zone, This article from Wikipedia is about Drop Zone not pertaining to that movie, and thus CF could just call the drop rides Drop Zone and remove any refrences to the MOVIE Drop Zone:

So, if we eliminate a few signature items, we could continue to call Top Gun by it's name. Right? (being serious here) Top Gun was a title before the movie and non-specific as a stand alone name minus "the jet coaster".

<a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy_Fighter_Weapons_School' target='_blank'>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States..._Weapons_School</a>

Or maybe not. But I get what you are saying. Like Congo at PKD was Congo before Paramount, even though Congo is a Paramount movie also. It still can simply reference a location.

<a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congo' target='_blank'>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congo</a>
<a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congo_%28movie%29' target='_blank'>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congo_%28movie%29</a>

Obviously Borg and Klingon Encounter(although no longer active) is specific, but since it is part of Star Trek it's a whole other ballgame.

Hurler may need to change though.

Well I wouldnt expect anything happening soon and maybe not nest year either. I dont think CF has had the time to plan that far in advance so my feeling is not much in the way of a big offereing in 07. Just an opinion now :)

"So, if we eliminate a few signature items, we could continue to call Top Gun by it's name. Right? (being serious here) Top Gun was a title before the movie and non-specific as a stand alone name minus "the jet coaster"."

Conceivably, they could probably still use that name as they're the only coaster operator/ride operator that I know that widely uses it, but they'd likely have to remove all refrences to the movie, including the logo.

"Or maybe not. But I get what you are saying. Like Congo at PKD was Congo before Paramount, even though Congo is a Paramount movie also. It still can simply reference a location."

Right, and I doubt many people even get that refrence. They can keep that themed area.

"Hurler may need to change though."

Doubtful. All the Wayne's World refrences are gone (are they still playing that over the TVs? That could just be gotten rid of), and the term 'Hurler', as I recall, wasn't anything from the movie. Granted, they said 'Hurl' a lot, but that is a pop culture phrase, and besides, IIR, Paramount Parks owns the name, and that will simply transfer with the sale.
