General Carowinds discussion

New guy... be gentle.

Firstly, I wouldn't say that Kings Dominion is moving along their construction at a faster pace... might be the case, but might not. Right now, I'd say KD and Carowinds are working on different things and in different ways. Land clearing is a major part of the construction process, and it looks like Carowinds is working on a lot of that. It appears as if Carowinds has a very large area of land to clear, so it might take longer to get to the process of erecting the coaster itself, but the construction could in theory still be finished earlier than KD's.

As far as Carowinds getting the short end of the stick and KD getting the 'better' ride... of the people that feel that way, I wonder how many have been on both any of the B&M hypers (the presumed Carowinds coaster... which is all anyone can do right now... presume) and Intamin's one and only Giga coaster.

This is just one Ohio guy's opinion, but as someone who has ridden Diamondback and Millennium Force... DB is twice the coaster MF is. Unless all you care about it height and nothing more, I wouldn't be so quick to proclaim an Intamin Giga better than a B&M hyper.

If Carowinds' coaster is the next in the Cedar Fair line of B&M hypers, following on the heels of Behemoth and Diamondback, 2010 is going to be an amazing summer for the park

Interesting... do you have a direct link to this info?

And I didn't mention this in my last post, but "the dippin dots guy" told me today at the park that they are storing the track off site and "prepping it or something". Take it with a huge grain of salt. And no it wasn't the actual dippin' dots guy.

I have a membership with http://www.datafax.net/ and that's where I got the information from. It doesn't have any site plans listed. It does say 2010 coaster though.

If Kings Dominion builds a ride with the size of Millennium Force, but a layout more similar to Bizarro, they could very well take the #1 steel in the world. That would be awesome if they did. And to all the fanboys, hey, it's only 6 hours up the road; maybe you could even convince your parents to take you one weekend.

At this point, comparing two projects we know nothing about is insane. Even after both are announced, it still could be difficult. Either way, if I were to guess, I would bet that come 2010, two of the top 10 steel coasters in the country if not the world will be at these two southern parks. That's something EVERYBODY should be excited about. Hopefully I don't eat those words, but I've got reason enough to be confident that I will not.

I would agree with Tchu when it comes to Millennium Force. The only B&M hypers I have been on that fall below Millennium Force for me are Raging Bull and Silver Star. Hopefully Intamin learned with Millennium Force that it's not all about speed.

What do you mean? :? The splashdown has to have a drainage system. If it didn't, the splashdown could flood when it rains.

I have ridden Millennium Force, magnum, apollo's chariot, and a few others. A B&M hyper at carowinds will make me very happy pleased. Giga coaster ( or at least Millennium Anyway ) are about speed mainly. Not so much air time. I have found Hypers to me much more enjoyable.

Sorry, I wasn't thinking... or I thought a little TOO hard. Jonathan is right... I shouldn't read in to it too much.

^Agreed. Millennium Force is NOT an airtime machine by any means.

That's the way it is with 95% of my posts. Just ask Coasterbruh. I have never been on a giga or a hyper. :( The last time I went to SFOG was before Goliath got built. I need to get down there sometime this year. :)

Have one more thing to say. Relax guys, set back and enjoy the ride. Cedar is showing carowinds more TLC then paramount ever did. What we are gonna get is gonna be Really, really good. Im sure of it. It is a very good thing that cedar fair is showing TLC to both parks. I look forward to seeing what comes out of all this. Its gonna be A really great year for all of us in 2010.

Yeah forget adding 8 roller coasters, expanding the water park to what is is now minus the new pool, scooby doo dark ride, the flyers, drop zone, fx theater during the time they ran the parks. That was nothing compared to how well cedar fair has managed to take care of Michigan Adventures...

^ Well, of course Paramount didn't literally forget about us...Most of the other former Paramount parks had something very unique added to their coaster collection and we didn't... Yes, we have a great B&M invert, but there are better ones out there. Paramount was great, yeah, we became a force to be reckoned with in the southern amusement industry under them. I just believe Carowinds will become even better with Cedar Fair.

Yes, you did have a trev sighting.

well dude, I kinda got out of coasters for a while. I hadn't been to Carowinds since April 2004, until I went to Scarowinds like right before halloween. Then my friend invited me to come to Carowinds with him on the 28th so I decided i'd check back here. And now there's all of this madness! Now time for you to feel old - I was 11 when I joined here, and I'm a senior in high school now. haha.

I needa start getting on here like, twice a day. I'm still confused as to what's gonig on here. All of this nice Dirt Porn has been distracting me too much to read the actual posts.

But it BETTER be something under the bridge, or else I will be super pissed.

Some of these sources of information are really bad. Maybe just a phising scheme to get some real information. Carowindsman6654 needs to check some of his/her sources because Simon and Watson is not the General contractor. I have a friend of a friend who works for Hendricks Construction and they are the real General contractor. They also build the Carolina Cobra last year. I looks like the old flume hill is completely gone now and there were two drilling rigs out there today. The skytower is a great place to keep an eye on things.

Yeah, I was just about to say that. My friend's brother's friend's dad works there too and they built Cobra last year and are now building this. (No, I'm not mocking you, it's actually true).
