New guy... be gentle.
Firstly, I wouldn't say that Kings Dominion is moving along their construction at a faster pace... might be the case, but might not. Right now, I'd say KD and Carowinds are working on different things and in different ways. Land clearing is a major part of the construction process, and it looks like Carowinds is working on a lot of that. It appears as if Carowinds has a very large area of land to clear, so it might take longer to get to the process of erecting the coaster itself, but the construction could in theory still be finished earlier than KD's.
As far as Carowinds getting the short end of the stick and KD getting the 'better' ride... of the people that feel that way, I wonder how many have been on both any of the B&M hypers (the presumed Carowinds coaster... which is all anyone can do right now... presume) and Intamin's one and only Giga coaster.
This is just one Ohio guy's opinion, but as someone who has ridden Diamondback and Millennium Force... DB is twice the coaster MF is. Unless all you care about it height and nothing more, I wouldn't be so quick to proclaim an Intamin Giga better than a B&M hyper.
If Carowinds' coaster is the next in the Cedar Fair line of B&M hypers, following on the heels of Behemoth and Diamondback, 2010 is going to be an amazing summer for the park
