General Carowinds discussion

Jay, that pavilion has for the most part been a home for wayward spiders for the last couple of months.

It is indeed "in the way" if you look at a certain satellite diagram posted here many times. Kind of bottlenecky.

BTW, there are a few pink flags haunting that ghost town. Never posted these because they make for boring pictures, along with 70 percent of the crap pics I've taken. And while on the subject, I could totally plot out, on that certain satellite diagram, exactly where this pinkness is, but I ain't gonna. What's wrong with a little mystery peeps?

Since MJ has died, and they need to sell things off from Neverland..... could Carowinds get our old train back?? Would it be worth it?

no 'thrills' for the under 25 gang.
.sorry to get off topic a bit.....

I beg to differ on that statement, I am 21 years old and been in love with trains for as long as I can remember. My first words were "Choo Choo". I am also a Rail Operations Volunteer at the NC Transportation Museum. I love working on and around trains, and enjoying riding a train as much as riding any roller coaster I have ever rode.

I am more than thrilled that Carowinds kept the Dora train instead of sending it to the scrap yard like they tend to do to everything else(Wonder where the hunk of scrap Satie went, it should be scrapped). Anyways, drainage pipes don't mean 100% it will have a splashdown. Drop Zone has a drain next to it's que. I know I had to find it in knee keep water cause even with Maintenance looking for it, I was the only one who knew where the drain was. Maintenance was taking too long to find it, and I wanted the que drain was we could open the ride. I jumped in ankle deep water, and found the drain in knee deep water in a couple minutes.

Am I the only one still curious about what this baby is going to be called? My brother recently suggested a name related to hurricanes: "Storm Surge", which I really kinda like. This would be relevant to both NC & SC and would even tie in to a splashdown (if we get one, which I'm not overly thrilled about, but it's all good :D!) And hey, if it goes >73 mph, it would literally be running at hurricane speed.

Beaufort Scale--Hurricane--Sustained Wind Speed >73 mph: Huge waves. Sea is completely white with foam and spray. Air is filled with driving spray, greatly reducing visibility. Very widespread damage to vegetation. Some windows may break; mobile homes and poorly constructed sheds and barns are damaged. Debris may be hurled about. Even more dangerous than the high winds of a hurricane is the storm surge--a dome of ocean water pushed toward the shore by the force of the winds swirling around the storm.

Seems fitting to me.

So, we know about the "Intimidator" idea--does anyone have any other name/theme ideas?

Glad to hear! But I feel you are the exception to the rule. If you ever get up my way let me know....I am near Cass Railroad with their 10+ working steam locos....one the worlds largest Shay.

Hey I'm sorta new to this thread... i've been watching it for weeks anticipating some good news but have never felt the need to reply back until now...

What about the name "ThunderStruck"? Remember the whole "They say lightning never strikes the same place twice. They were wrong!" thing a couple of months ago? Well, if infact that idea was truly what was being thought for this coaster, then the name could go great.

oh and by the way... i like the "Storm Surge" idea too :D
but what about the track color? If indeed the track spotted at the ohio plant is for us, then why would they theme a red coaster to a storm? It just doesn't seem to fit for me :?

Probably the same way the Carolina Hurricanes are named after a storm and their colors are red. Not trying to bust you or anything, just sayin'.
To me, red means mean and fast. And hopefully that is what this coaster is gonna be. Hence the Intimidator name that has been thrown around would fit nice.

Well, I totally forgot about the red track color, and I agree with both of you, that would kinda put a big damper on "Storm Surge". Taking probable red track color into consideration, I have another idea: "Firestorm". That sounds very red & very fast to me.

I'm not opposed to "Intimidator" per se--I actually think it would be a great name for a sick, wicked, mean ride--it just doesn't say B&M hyper to me. But to echo other previous comments, I'll ride it until I'm unconscious no matter what it's called.

Generally most people are "intimidated" by things really big so I think intimidator would be a fitting name, just as well as goliath and behemoth and titan...

Yes, that is true. I guess the way I and many other coaster geeks perceive B&M hypers is probably not the average response. I have never really felt intimidated by them, they just make me screech for joy. Many other coasters HAVE intimidated me, just not those. Even the first time I saw a photo of one I thought it looked almost whimsical, and certainly exciting, but not particularly scary. I think they are way too smooth and way too much fun to be intimidating. However, I imagine that to most typical park-goers, 200+ feet and 70+ mph is VERY intimidating. I'm fresh out of name ideas anyhow.

What are our trains for this coaster going to look like? Because Diamondbacks trains are like a snake. Or are ours going to be just plain.

Well a hurricane warning flag is red and black so red track isn't too big of a stretch. I don't think they would reuse the name of the now defunct Hurricane coaster that was in Myrtle Beach.
