General Carowinds discussion

I didn't mean that next year's coaster would be an RMC, I just thought it was an interesting statement and may imply some sort of commonality between the two. Of course, I would love the above mentioned multi-year expansion, but I'm not holding my breath as of yet.

I can see the possibility of them maybe teasing something for this year, and next.

We get the Mack launch opening next year, name to be determined. And they announce that Hurler will be taking its last rides this year to reopen in 2020 as RMC converted Copperhead Strike.

I can also see the teases being just that, teases. Remember the teasing for Fury? "Rome wasn't built in a day" and the name we had the trademark filing for, "Centurion". The teasing fit that name, but ultimately it went a different direction.

And as far as teasing goes, is this early teasing aimed at the general public, or people like us who would go over every little detail? Is the tree thing just a nod to the love of trees found here?

And didn't someone tease a while back about no tree's being harmed for this new coaster in this thread, and then they cut a bunch of tree's down...

The trees they were referring to were those that would be torn down to supply wood for construction of a wooden coaster, not the trees in that plot of land...

The 2 teasers have literally nothing that would really support Mack launch. There is ridiculous and obvious reference to Mystic Timbers, which was a GCI. Also, reference to RMC with "vengeance ", "chamberlain brothers " which is the backstory on Steel Vengeance. This is either a multi yr tease of a GCI and RMC Hurler or the biggest head fake ever to cover up the supposed Mack Launch. The thing is the GCI followed by RMC makes a lot of sense, you build a woody than convert the old one.

The natives are rioting down main street, looting and grabbing everything they see from the closed stores. They are too easy to get riled up.

I actually always thought they were getting 2 coasters back to back. 2019 new coaster and 2020 Vortex Conversion. A ground up and a floorless conversion is not out of line with Cedar Fair's MO at the other 2 parks that got them. I don't see 3 in a row, but I could see a GCI and RMC. Mystic Timbers cost 15M and Twisted Timbers if like other RMC's of it's size was 10-12M. Fury was 30M, so these 2 would cost slightly less combined, that's not out of the question. Also, factor in Cedar Fair's 2020 capital expenditure matrix was all rides for 2020 and they were talking an across the chain celebration. Cedar Fair's 2 conversions have gotten rave reviews so CF is likely eager to work with RMC more. Another point is CGA which was made a prioritized park with a long term plan like Carowinds got a conversion in 2017, RMC raptor in 2018 and have permits confirmed for 2020 hyper. That's 3 coasters in 4 years so it's not completely out of the realm for Carowinds to get a lot in a short period.

It’s not out of the realm of possibilities but those teasers are not a confirmation of a GCI or RMC within the next three years. We already know what’s coming in 2019. We’ve known since April, there are steel coaster footers being poured and a Mack Rides crate in the parking lot. People are reading way too deep into those teasers, and when that happens, it’s always followed by the disappointment of enthusiasts claiming that they were “mislead” because the park didn’t fulfill their unrealistic expectations.

At the end of the day, the teasers are doing what they were intended to do, get people talking. Plus, the Communications Director for Carowinds has been active on Twitter all day responding in code to tweets and dropping Easter Eggs , same goes for the Communications Director at Kings Island who chimed in on the Barn Teaser photo saying "Lots of Easter eggs to discover in that image. ;-)"

A quick google shows that GCI primarily uses Southern Yellow Pine for construction (https://www.greatcoasters.com/?p=faq), so maybe they are saying that Project Alpha isn't just a 2019 project, but a massive multi year transformation

clearly Cedar Fair has a long term plan for what's coming to each park and when, based on certain goals being met. They know the next 3 to 5 BIG attractions Carowinds will get, or at least the type they'll put at Carowinds, and it's just a matter of how much they say and when.

By the way, here's an interesting analysis on all the weekly teasers put out last summer by Kings Dominion for Twisted Timbers...we may be able to learn something from those teasers for what to look for with Carowinds' teasers
https://www.coaster101.com/2017/06/20/kings-dominion-begins-teasing-2018/

the follow up post to the teaser analysis looks back at their guesses from the teases vs. reality. scroll almost to the bottom of this

by the way...if you haven't been to KD to ride Twisted Timbers, it's a MUST RIDE. Probably my favorite coaster there now. except for the launch part of Volcano maybe. But reridable over and over, unlike I305. Just a TON of fun. Couldn't stop laughing on the 2nd half, which is the best part of ride.

If I remember right I think Busch Gardens Williamsburg did a 2-year announcement for MachTower and Verbolten to generate extra excitement. Edited after i found the link; http://carowindsconnection.com/viewtopic.php?t=3283 I realize Busch isn't Cedar Fair, but they might say hey, it's been done before, let's make this a big multi-year announcement.

These are also on the "wall" at Carowinds along with the other two signs already posted on here.

Actually One of them does. On this image below at the bottom it says big MOCK demolition and building. Remember guys these are just teasers and are meant to tease you!

"Chamberlain Brothers Excavation" may be a reference to Steel Vengeance and Maverick at Cedar Point.
from CP web site:

"They’re back. And they’re back with a VENGEANCE! Once intimidated and disrespected by the musings of Maverick, outcasts Jackson “Blackjack” Chamberlain, Chess “Wild One” Watkins and Wyatt “Digger” Dempsey have returned to FrontierTown to right the wrongs done to them and their fellow FrontierTown Folk."

https://www.cedarpoint.com/explore/steel-vengeance

they are throwing every phrase and story detail from every coaster into the teasers! Cedar Fair marketing is likely having a lot of fun with this.
