General Carowinds discussion
#27313
For one thing I would like to see some more flat rides but theres more money in the roller coasters right now. I would all so like to some a nice about 150ft wooden coaster like all lot of parks have.

Ok im going to take diamondback for an ex. they did the same thing carowinds is doing now but they did not have a log flume to take down.and all of this does not make since they get a hyper right after a boomerang which is a great coaster. It makes more since if they are doing every thing this year in prep for the new coaster in 2011 or this year all im saying is rumors get started and cant get stoped is this what is happening?

I don't think the Boomerang has any real bearing on the 2010 attraction.

It's not like Carowinds has never built coasters in consecutive years before. From 1998 to 2004, the only year they didn't build a coaster was 2001. Sure, that's including Taxi Jam and Reptar, but they are coasters and did cost money to build. That didn't stop Top Gun or BORG from being built the following seasons.

Cobra is certainly a bigger coaster than the kiddie rides. However, it's also a ride that CF already owned. CF comes out ahead financially by installing that and replacing Saturator, which was expensive to operate. I'm sure CF is also factoring in that Carowinds hasn't added anything of note since the Flyers in 2005 to the ride part of the park, aside from re-installing Frenzoid in a new spot. Another factor is the loss of the log flume for this season. Going into 2009 with no log flume, no Saturator, and no new ride whatsoever would've hurt the park this year, no matter what they build next year.

I don't expect major coasters in consecutive years as the norm - CF isn't Six Flags, and doesn't want to make those mistakes.

Yeah, Boomerang was likely just placed there because they needed to put it somewhere. It wouldn't have any bearing on next year's attraction.

I honestly think that starting in 2010, everyone will start seeing what CFEC thinks of Carowinds. I expect improvements to the waterpark and flat rides. CF is a company that adds flats to their parks. And they seem to like Top Spins and Afterburners so I hope we get both (even if we technically already have an Afterburner ;) ).

I agree with the above statements concerning Cobra. But I do think the decision was really based on the placement of Dominator. Carowinds and Dominion were in the same situation, being that Fair had not added anything substantial to either park. If Dominator had been placed here then Dominion would currently be in our shoes, and would be inline for a major 2010 addition. Also consider this; Dominator is a relatively new state of the art coaster that cost about 16 million to build where Head Spin is basically worthless. If they had even tried to sell the thing they would not have gotten a million for it. If Vekoma had not supplied new trains, it would not even be coming here. As Ken said, Carowinds needed a 09 addition and I think Cobra was a last minute fillin, (otherwise it would have been placed here last year when Dominator was relocated), and had nothing to do with 2010 plans. Dominator is really what dictated the 2010 plans. And another thing, all the folk who think Dominion is going to get a major coaster in 2010 are delusional.

Both parks are already confirmed to be installing coasters for the 2010 season Capler but right now nothing other than speculation as to the type & manufacturer are known at this point....it is possible that CF could build two hypers in one season you know. The only reason Carowinds recieved the boomerang this season is because they asked for it before KD & as a result the two flats were added instead.

Technically neither park has been confirmed to get anything, everything in this thread other than the actual demolition of the Log Flume has been speculation. As much as I want for KD to get a coaster next year as it is my 'home away from home park' I feel really bad for all the KD fanboys getting their hopes up as it is increasingly apparent that they aren't getting anything too big just based on construction...

I am starting to doubt a hyper coaster, KI already had footers in at this point. However, I do believe the new coaster will be taller than Cobra and Afterburn. As far as KD goes, I don't think they are getting anything the size of what Carowinds is getting, if any coaster. I read KDFansite that the fireworks will be launched from behind Anaconda, and that is my guess as to what the new clearing is.

Can someone confirm that is parking lot is coming up? I read at TPR that it is.
