General Carowinds discussion

^^Love your comment and respect for C.F.

Now, I have to agree with Jarsh on what he thinks the White Lightnin' teaser means. He thinks it means that B&M will build another coaster over 300' and I have to agree to his idea. It's rather smart and I never thought of that teaser that way, like many GP's would. Great thinking Jarsh, on both banners. 23 days and counting. I hope that the announcement will be amazing and full of "action". Having "props" or smoke. Things like that. Like when Beast and Son of Beast were announced.
Or if you guys can think of a better announcement to compare to.

MarkD wrote:I will confess that when I originally heard that C.F. was buying the Paramount chain I disapproved. The only reason is that we all know how far behind Carowinds is / was than the other parks and I actually felt as if C.F. would sell off Carowinds to someone else. Our park has been through the drain so many times and recycled I was loosing hope in it becoming what the other parks were. With every year we all get older and for those of us who have been attending Carowinds since opening day kind of loose hope now and then that we would never have something to really brag about.

With all the 2013 season I could smell something in the air. And no, it wasn't Jarvis. J/K But I could tell change was coming. Now, with all the speculations up in the air, all the construction projects, the food establishments upgrades, the TOLL booth movement I can see big things for Carowinds over the next several years.

It is not just Jarsh and other senior members here chatting, although that helps, it is looking at the placement of construction projects and other hear say that you can imagine the possibilities. I really want the Carolina atmosphere left in the park but bring it on. Kudos to C.F. for pumping us up. Tease away!

i hear you Mark. I was thinking Carowinds and Great America would be sold and CF was only interested in the Kings parks and CW. I was hoping Six Flags or someone else would take us on. Kings did an ok job with the park wherein all the parks were treated fairly equal. Carowinds pretty much got the same thing as Dominion. But when Paramount took over, only two parks were favored. It's nice to finally see Carowinds being included with the elite.

Do people forget that Paramount gave Carowinds the two best additions in the entire chain? Top Gun and the Flying Eagles from Kings Island. And best of all we didn't get an Italian Job! Negative points for sending Stealth our way however....

There were a lot of duds throughout the rest of the chain, thankfully none of which went to Carowinds (except Stealth) - Invertigo & Face/Off, Son of Beast, Hypersonic XLC, THREE ITALIAN JOBS! Poor Canada's Wonderland got stuck with an SLC and a Volare.

So which are the good rides that Carowinds missed out on? Volcano and two Flight of Fears? One of the Arrow Suspendeds? Taller Drop Zones?

I'm definitely glad Cedar Fair bought Carowinds and everyone else, because without that Intimidator wouldn't exist. But Paramount didn't exactly neglect Carowinds. (other than ripping out all the water and trees and themeing)

You almost got your wish, but it would have came at the expense of Carolina Cyclone. There were plans to put Kings Dominion's Flight of Fear in Cyclone's spot in early 2006. Cedar Fair bought the parks just in time to nix that deal. Besides, now we'll probably get a bigger launched than Flight of Fear in a few years. 8)

When that happened and I found out they were getting rid of XLC I really wanted that in the parking lot by thunder road. Loved me some XLC.

I'd have been happy with the addition and it would have given Us a launch.

In all honesty, at this point, the only three coasters I feel Carowinds lacks is a good launched coaster, a signature woody, and a family coaster to replace Saturator (preferably a spinner).

The biggest needs of the park, though, are flats, slides, and more of both.

While the suspense is killing me. I'm glad to see all this construction going forward I worked at the park in 2005 and employees kinda knew that paramount was selling the division I thought that it would be awesome if cedar fair bought the chain and was so happy when it turned out to be true. Carowinds is now the fourth largest Park in the cedar fair chain, and in the next few years it will be a destination Park with all this work I'm sure of that. Who would of though from its humble beginning in the 70s I don't think Hall could of imagined. Really going to be exciting walking back into the park next year for sure.

Ok back to the 300 for tall coaster in 2015, Here is something I noticed from the blueprints that will hopefully settle the debate (are we still going on about that? ) on if its a B&M and/or a launch. Looks like we'll be getting the cool new support structure too.

This from the blueprints:

Looks an AWEFUL lot like this from an arial view doesn't it?

If someone had a Quadcopter equipped with a camera, get video and pictures that way. I would myself, however, that's a LONG drive for me... Hey guys, do any of you have a Quadcopter?

I noticed that when I made my no limits 2 model. It looked like the Leviathan support structure.
Sorry for the double post. (Don't be sorry, just use the edit button)

Hello there! I've finally decided to register with Carowinds Connection so I too can join in on the speculation for 2015 (which I do not think will include a launch or winged trains). Unfortunately, I live in central Ohio and have never been to Carowinds, although it's definitely on my bucket list. I just wanted to say that I'm very excited for what is to come of this magnificent park. :D

Indeed some of those rides ended up being a bust, but that was not the intent when they were planned, most were ground breaking first of it's kind and Paramount sank a lot of money and effort into them. What ride did Carowinds get that represented that sort of priority? Top Gun was nice addition but it was basically a Montu clone without the extra loop. If I am not mistaken Invertigo was the first of it's kind. Hypersonic was also, even Tomb Raiders was a unique spin on the Top Spin. Ki got the first giant Frisbee. The gyro drops were the first. Volcano and FOF, were first. Paramount never gave Carowinds anything that was unique.
On the other hand CF has given us the tallest B&M hyper and potentially the tallest Giga in the US.
