General Carowinds discussion

It looks like the entrance into the Helix shouldn't take long to construct, it's low to the ground and on the outside of the Barrel Turn. I think the exit out of the helix will be the part that takes a long time to construct. It's going to be lift hill construction all over again.

Well, the first third or so of the helix is on the outside of the turn. Then they have to thread the middle section of the helix through the supports and the last third of the helix is inside the turn. Then they have to thread under the camelback before getting in the clear again to go over the bottom of the first drop. It looks to be quite a complex operation. They've had a few of those low supports in place for a while now. There's method to the madness though.

Construction managers are usually experts in managing complex projects and not coasters. I generally wouldn't quote what one said regarding coaster engineering as fact. The people who know are ones like Irvine Ondrey Engineering who manufacture and install the control systems. I have had to deal with a few irate customers in the past who thought the home automation systems I was installing would do everything the construction manager said it would, when it fact they wouldn't.

I was wondering if they were going to add or remove another section from the crane to help with the tight working quarters of the helix.

After looking at the ride renderings again, I really don't think the construction through the helix will be all that slow. The track only goes under two supports of the barrel turn. The other two passages under the existing track (under the start of the hill after the 1st drop and under the camelback) are both low to the ground and can be easily installed. Everything else is in the open and should be able to be installed no different than the rest of the track.

The bigger threat to a construction slow down is the lack of track left to install. Looks like only 10 pieces or so which will only get them about 1/4 of the way into the helix. We need some more track please!

Everything else is low to the ground and can be erected without the need for big, tall cranes. I would suspect that Clifford Jr is being prepped for disassembly. They'll keep using Clifford and the truck crane to finish Fury 325 and then they'll use Clifford to erect the Slingshot before it's disassembled as well.

Also, Google maps has updated it's aerial views of the park and Fury is now included.

I can't stop wondering why they don't bring in more track from Clermont? Seems like the track fabrication is behind schedule. I guess if they don't bring in more truck loads until Monday, the construction crew at Carowinds might be kind of unemployed.....
