General Carowinds discussion

Chris wrote:Look, I told you the reason. Believe me or not, that is the reason they are holding the announcement while the park is closed. Now, could track arrive the week before or the week after the announcement? Sure, maybe. But that has nothing to do with why they are holding the announcement when the park is closed so stop with the "Kinda sad how they are doing the biggest announcement ever while the park is closed" posts. No, it's not.

I never said track was the reason. I said there could possibly be another reason.

There's also strategy to holding it when the park is open. Let's say they announce when the park is open at 10 pm, guests will stay at the park later and spend more money on food and merchandise just to hear the big announcement and they end it with their usual firework show. I just think it is a great way to build more hype for the ride.

Parks never used to announce things during operating hours, so why would this be any different? Announcing things to a live audience of guests is only a very recent trend employed by a small handful of parks. I would imagine the majority of park guests wouldn't want to visit anyway to see a bunch of talking heads. They would be happy to just see it pop up on their Facebook feed and see what it is.

To all who say its better to announce when the park is open or its better to announce when the park is closed. Who cares? Not to offend anyone but I don't care when they announce it as long as they do it on the day they said and a 30 mil 300' tall coaster is announced. Would an announcment when the park is open with fireworks and the whole 9 yards be cool? Sure. But if I was a higher up or an enthusiast would I want some bad little kids running around and knocking over displays? NO!

I worked the ACC Kickoff event in Greensboro last week to promote the start of ACC Football to the media. I can't explain how difficult it was keeping it professional around Jimbo Fisher and Jameis Winston. I grew up in Tallahassee, Fl and have been rooting for FSU for over 30 years. I am a huge FSU fan but I had to remain neutral that weekend.
It would be like the ACC allowing fans to attend the event. Terrible idea.

For what it's worth they were interested in having the announcement during an operating day, but the timing just didn't work out for it. I assume they aren't going to do it on a weekend for press purposes.

The park has a pretty good grasp on when the best timing for this kind of stuff is. As with any park there are marketing and public relations departments and their jobs are focused on promoting the park and getting positive press coverage. I can guarantee you that barring some unforeseen major event Carowinds is going to dominate the Charlotte area news on August 21 and 22.
