General Carowinds discussion

You didn't miss much.
Also, I would think that it would be warm enough, but then again, it was rather cold down here last winter when Fury was being built wasn't it?

EDIT:
I just thought about this. The old fountain in front of Vortex would be a great spot for a christmas tree. And the trees around it covered in lights.

It was 70+ everyday in the week before Christmas last year (the year after Fury was built). I was walking my dogs at 9PM everynight in short sleeves while listening to the frogs croaking.

Time to buy those 2017 season passes, and to figure out a good day with short lines for our "free" visit in 2016. :D

Guess ill have to dig out my old winterfest maps again and see what all was opened, seems like they closed out the kids area during the event, but I might be wrong.... Looking at that map will sure put in perspective how much has changed!

Really impressed by the renderings. Hopefully the final outcome looks just as great!

"The Flying Cobras" is a ridiculous name, the new color scheme looks too much like Fury's own (seriously, why not purple track instead of blue?), but that's a small annoyance that I can excuse because it fits the motif. I'm still completely stoked to experience the all-new County Fair in 2017!

As for the "old" County Fair, I'm curious to see what's done with it. There's really no cohesive theme over there (we've got zombies and bumper cars on one side, and a fighter jet on the other), but I hope they do something productive to make sense of it all. Adding a Mondial Revolution and calling the area Carolina Carnival? Carnivals and Fairs are different, after all!!

Super excited to see WinterFest returning too. Though I hope they plan on opening at least SOME rides. Didn't look like there was any mention of rides in the press release. If Dollywood and others can do, so can Carowinds. Rides are still gonna be the biggest draw to an amusement park, even in Winter. IMO.

The more I think about it, the more I am wondering if they will just "extend" county fair from where it is all the way to in front of cobra. I mean the bumper cars, boo blasters souther star and plants vs zombies plus yo yo arent going anywhere and they can still be a fair theme. They could always remove yo yo and add a ferris wheel and add even more rides later on through the whole area.... Oh well I guess we will see. Its pretty obvious with the markings that something will be done over there, whether its a re-theme or just expanded. The possibilities are so endless...

But good news about the flats, though it's not really much of a surprise to anyone.

I wouldn't worry. First, its B&M so it's pretty reliable. Also, its a park gate that basically runs thru it. It wont be forgotten or neglected.

Here is an overhead view of the area.

It's safe to say they dont have to remove any rides.

I don't think you will need to worry about Afterburn, it's one of the rides in the park that I think can hold its own and it doesn't really need to have a companion coaster. On weekends Afterburn still has a full queue so I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

Comparing the two, looks like the Pink Slides(what color are they now?) are in the way. Note that the Troika(Do-Si-Do) sits in front of Cobras' Cobra Roll. The walk between Wings and the waterpark is also wider. Odds are that the pink slide in be moved to the grassy area where Thunder Road was but if not that leaves the grassy area open for the next waterpark expansion.
