General Carowinds discussion

KingHippo1 wrote:My stench is glorious coasterBrush. And yet again if the wing coaster is wrong then the giga is false as well. You're just picking and choosing what you want to believe. I'M KIND OF A BIG DEAL, PEOPLE KNOW ME(RON BURGANDY).

No one is picking and choosing. I just feel it won't be a winged coaster in the form of what YOU and others maybe thinking ie; B&M. Let me help you out in a way that I think you only understand...pictures. Exhibit A:

Image
This is a picture of intamins winged coaster. Sure, its just a sorta mega-lite inspired coaster with two seated hanging over the side but still, none the least a winged coaster. Let's move on to exhibit B: (still with me king donkey?)

Image
Whoah...will you look at that...an even more true winged coaster car on an intamin!

Think about it...if the park was going with. A beemer winged coaster why not mention the other 4 created to give an idea of what the coaster may be like. Nope, no mention of them...BUT a mention of all giga coasters. Still with me donkeyboy? So is over 300ft correct???? I'm pretty sure. Is a winged coaster correct??? To bring variety to the park the newest intamin style trains on a skyrush/megalite inspired layoutis a definite possibility. The south has two beemer hypers already. You don't want people says its like intimidator AND goliath. Is 65mph correct??? Absolutely NOT! Show me one coaster that goes up that tall and doesn't fully take advantage of the height it has achieved...one!

So in closing...kingkong, I think you are setting yourself if you are expecting a 300 ft gatekeeper. I mean, the article mention coasters are already 480 ft tall. Do you believe that as well? But I digress and is left this thought...somehow I feel failure isn't too unfamiliar grounds for you...

As much as I prefer B&M over Intamin (for a list of reasons too long for one post) I will admit I like your idea better than a B&M wing coaster. I would love this version of an giga 'Intamin Wing Coaster' maybe blending MF and Skyrush and Gatekeeper 'layouts' together into one coaster. I only mention Gatekeeper due to the L shaped layout which goes to the entrance and back. I found i305 painful and not very re-ridable without getting neck issues and a headache. I will pass of we get something close to i305. I am still guessing we get a B&M. I also agree that the report/meeting with the city was just general info that we should not read too deeply into. Just my 3 cents worth.

I do believe this coaster will be exclusive to nc only so I wouldn't count on it going to the park entrance. I feel cedar point did the whole gstekeeper thing because its the coaster capital. Carowinds has charm. I really hope that southern charm stays at the front gate and not become some generic looking retro style gate keeper gate...and intimidator has an "l" shaped layout. Let's bring on something different!

To everything that Jarvis said: YES! This is why I want to gouge my eyes out. Ugh.

I just feel like some of you are taking certain things you want to hear, coupling that with nonsense, and demanding that this or that is coming.

The guy that went before the council does not represent Cedar Fair. He likely had some secondhand information, put together a slide show to make it look pretty, and much of his information was likely half truths, so there is no way anyone can determine what we're getting. We may not even be getting a 300' anything, since Cedar Fair has yet to confirm that.

They didn't go to the council to ask permission to build anything, they went asking for tax incentives.

All we know for sure is that Cedar Fair divulged some plans that they're spending a certain amount of money, and some of it is going to certain things, and a coaster was mentioned. Beyond that it's all speculation, so coming in and demanding this or that is setting everyone up for disappointment. Just like what happened with the Giga at Kings Island that turned into an inverted coaster (The same invert that it was all along).

IF Carowinds is getting a 300' coaster, then the likely builders are narrowed down to Intamin or B&M. IF what the guy said about the trains having a Wing Design were true, then either of those manufacturers could definitely build a 300' wing coaster. The more likely scenario, IF THOSE TWO STATEMENTS ARE INDEED FACT, is that Carowinds might get an Intamin Giga with the new wing style trains Intamin has been using. But the presentation the guy gave to the council is so rife with inaccuracies, we don't know what is correct and what isn't. We know there are no 480' coasters. We know that anything over 300' is going to go faster than 65mph (Even I305 went faster than that with a drop full of trims). We know very little.

It's all fun to speculate, but there just isn't much right now for anyone to be able to come in and confirm what Carowinds is building, and what it isn't.

And give me an Intamin giga over anything B&M any day. But if we get a B&M Giga, I'll be there.

Yea it will probably hold true to just being on the NC side, but I wonder if they really care if it crosses the sc border to turn around etc. I guess this could also determine how they will re-profile the entrance, would they move it out and up more on the NC side... or just straight out. Since the palladium is right there, my guess is it would just be moved out and made larger with new building for tickets etc. Just dont know if its a huge thing if it crossed that line into SC... I could see the skyrush style trains as i have mentioned before... I am just hoping its something new from B&M, a new style or something. I did some messing around in No Limits with a barrell roll and loop drop (like gatekeeper) and it hits about 80mph at the bottom with it still around 100+ feet off the ground. Wish I was better at the game and could actually figure out at what height it would only be going 65mph

Definitely can see the point that they might have just used the coaster for an example and it doesn't mean that we will get the wing, but who knows. Still not giving up hope

I hope the southern charm stays as well, and the metal detectors leave! I just dont understand why we have them here and I dont even recall any other park I have been to having them. I do hope that the entrance updates include the pass scanners, or better yet maybe you will have to scan your finger like... where was that... busch gardens????? I cant even remember... but anyways I hope they do update the equipment etc, which I am sure they will in some form..

Honestly, I just want a smooth Intamin Giga with whatever trains they wanna put on it.
(Although the new "wingrider" intamin Trains seem perfectly fine)

More Millennium Force like, and less like I-305, that's what I would like to see.

Carowinds needs more variety, a B&M hyper (one of the best, I might add) and an intamin Giga would be phenomenal together. They'd likely complement each other and the park a great deal.

Thank you costnerbush for clearing that up for me. I actually love those pics you put on here. I would totally love to ride one of those. Albeit you said you didn't think it was going to be a winged but now it could possibly be a winged. Very clear message you are sending. I underestimate your intelligence. You're going straight to the top. I digress, at least your points are an interesting lead I'll give you that. That megalite looks sweet.

^over half of the parks I've been to have metal detectors. It seems to be more prevalent on parks closer to metropolitan areas.

If you read the description of the location and where he references the map, it sounds to me like the non-expert speaker might have threw together the map (like many of us do) as something to put in his presentation. It appears that he thought the paladium was the front entrance and put the red area there.

This seems a more likely location of the coaster. The yellow is a different potential return path to the station. Thinking about it more, I should have pushed it further out towards the season pass parking lot as I suspect part of it will at least go through the grassy hill at the front of that area.

Typed very quickly on my Blackberry:
This map gives you a sense of where the facility would be.
The yellow line is the state line between North Carolina and South Carolina and this would be the new rollercoaster feature here. The water slide and the food facilities would be here, some of it extending over into South Carolina.
This white building right here (amphitheater) is their current front gate and ticketing. This is what would be reconfigured and expanded out towards here.

Councilmember Andy Dulin said:
"excuse me sir, that white building is the Amphitheater. The state line goes through the front gate."

To me, this also looks like he thinks the Amphitheater is the current entrance.
He realizes his mistake after being told by Councilmember Dublin, and says to pay attention to the actual current enterance.

This means, seemingly, he suggests it will go through the entrance. And he says "some of it extending over into south carolina". And later shows Cedar Point's Entrance to show how the keyholes work with a wing coaster, like he says we're getting.

Seems like he's telling them "This is a Wing Coaster, Carowinds is getting a 300ft one that will go through the new entrance". The debatable part being the speed.

Now, "extending over into SC"...
He could be talking about the water slides going over to the NC side but they won't, we already know they'll be on the SC side, or the food complex, which we also know will be on the SC side in front of Intimidator. Or, potentially talking about the coaster itself? What else could he be talking about?? The new entrance?

Here's the image from the presentation again:

Either way, I think we'll be getting something close to what he's saying it will be.

What I said was I don't think its gonna be a wing rider in the same since as many of you think, a la gatekeeper, wild eagle, swarm... I figured that was a little much to comprehend for you...I was correct.
#52846
Well if you do understand the word comprehension like you say you do roostercush then you would know I've yet to describe what we're getting. Not once have I said a description of any coaster. All I did was provide the info on this meeting that gives you a forum for a debate. But to debate you to at least should read previous posts to understand what a you are discussing. Thank you Mr. Hippo should be your next words. Or be a politician since you like to flip flop

Wolf wrote:Most of you guys are forgetting that Carowinds bought out a lot of that land behind Thrill Zone. We don't have to demolish the Palladium to fit this new coaster in.

No one's said that. Actually the exact opposite.
The red line of the track through the Palladium was put there by the Cedar Fair representative, not me or anyone else who'd used it.

With all due respect, try reading the posts not just looking at the pictures.

KingHippo1 wrote:And your thought about what a winged coaster is puts our version of the vortex right there in winged territory. Can we get a second opinion?

Coasterbruh is correct.
Both of his pics are of two styles of trains that are classified by Intamin as Wing Coasters.
