General Carowinds discussion

I am going out on a limb here, and would guess whatever we get will NOT be taller than the skytower. Skytower is 320ft made by intamin. Although it would be very cool if we got a hyper that had a launch system like The Hulk @ IOA fl. Only time will tell. Just my opinion.

When people other than the regulars are correct on this one, you will all be happy with the end results and will be wanting to meet us.

If it makes you feel better i dont even believe what the parks says half the time... 8)

Anything is possible at the rate. This is the "free for all" chapter in the addition saga.

You know what really gets me is that people are already whining about a ride that does not even have ONE footer poured yet. If some of you are that disappointed already then what is it going to be like when they do announce the ride? As I have stated earlier in this thread the ride is something that is BRAND NEW and not a coaster that has ran at another park before. I can see why some people are not that happy with the park for putting in coasters that have ran at other park but atleast wait till the new one is built.

Let me help clear up some things I have saw the last few pages with one being the launch on Hulk. Universal owns the patent since it was Universal that wanted it on the coaster. B&M did not design the launch but did design the coaster to have a launch but I am sure with the proper exchange of green backs I am sure it is possible for a coaster to use the Tire Launch but what if the Launch that is being spoke about is another type of Launch. I have heard things that mention this ride might have something special on it but that is just hear say.

Also it is known that Carowinds does infact have a restriction on just how high things can be built. If I recall any structure can not surpass the height of the Sky Tower. If they would want to build anything taller then they would have to ask the FAA for a valance in the restriction. I could be incorrect on that but please correct me if I am wrong, but that would kill the world's tallest coaster rumour there for I would not think they would began all this without getting that from the FAA.

Then I saw where someone said that the people designing this ride want to make it longer and bigger and use more steel or something along that lines. Well I can tell you that Jon is correct on saying that the customer is the one who is in the driver's seat on that. They have an idea what they want and they pass that along to the company designing the ride. I might have abit of an insight on this part for various reasons and such. Now it is not unheard of for the company designing the ride to tweak stuff from time to time and maybe show the said customer something they have came up with. Now it all boils down to just how much the customer is willing to pay to have the ride made from the design stage to the operating stage.

And as for the Yellow track in Ohio, I thought we already figured out that is heading to another destination since it is being loaded into shipping containers for transport via maybe ship to another country. If the Yellow track was heading to anywhere in the US or Canada then it would have been loaded up on to Flat Bed Trailers and shipped to the park not in containers. It is pretty dafe to say that Red Track might be heading to Fort Mill, SC.

Now who is doing the photo update this weekend? I think I recall that Jay said he was going.

Have you ever rode an Intamin Hyper Coaster before?

yes and yeah the one at SFNE is INCREDIBLE but i dont really like the one at darien lake

i'm entitled to my opinion right? :)

I think what dave is saying is that there are coasters outside of the us other than the supermans in the us...to base why people like intamin hyper/mega coasters more. Alot of people base their decision on more than just bizzaro-ride of steel. There goliath in walibi world and those mega-lites popping up now.

oh yeah i COMPLETELY forgot about all the Intamin Hypers in Europe and Asia not to mention the mega-lites... never rode anything outside the US...

we've gotten a little off the dirt-moving topic... :?

It may be true that the customer calls the shots in most cases but B&M strikes me as one of those companies that keeps tight reigns on quality control, Apple Computer is another who does this. My guess is that the only reason B&M has only now gotten up to 230 ft is because they wanted to be sure the product it puts out there will be problem free. My guess is that even if a park asks for a 300 ft hyper, the company would not do it until the concept is tested, retested and is problem free. B&M is all about reputation, not being a record breaker. So far this has served them well and has made them the gold standard in the industry.

On the launch system, it is possible the company is now ready to enter this arena. My gut screams that the Carowinds coaster will somehow be different, but it could also be the chili dog I just had for lunch also.

they may be loading the train in to the shipping containers so people don't see it when there moving it from place to place but i don't think that they are going to have two yellow coasters next to each other but i could be wrong.

I won't be there this weekend, but do plan on dropping by soon now that they're open on weekdays. Between plenty of vacation time to burn and the possibility of joining the ranks of the unemployed, I should be there quite a bit.

Now I'm craving a chili dog.

I think the b&m factor is cost...the higher the coaster, the longer the coaster, the more cost for the coaster. One b&m could buy you a really good ride package AND a coaster! There is no reason to test a 300ft height. They didnt test 200ft....

I thought hyper coasters couldn't go above 300 feet without being upgraded to giga status.
Hyper: 200-299
Giga: 300-399
Strata: 400-?
Either way, I see no way we beat 300 feet. A nice, fast, long coaster around 250 feet would keep me happy for a long time. I would love a 300 footer, but I say keep dreaming! Then maybe someday dreams come true...

show me any indication where this coaster is even a steel coaster? Its been said with good faith that it is a hyper coaster but please dont put 100% stake in that claim. And labels are just that, labels. a coaster can be what ever it wants to be/called.
