What B&M contract?

The Romour thats been floating around that Cedar Fair has a contract with B&M for three coasters. I was always told if you buy in bulk you get a discount.

He's referring to the rumor that Cedar Fair went into a contract in which they agreed to purchase three coasters from B&M, our coaster being the third. I don't know that it ever held any truth, though.

What? To build three hypers in three years? That's probably not true... Just like the rumored on that everyone talked about over on atari that Cedar Point had a 5 coaster 10 year contract with Intamin... Ha. Ha.

It probably isn't true, but either the paper is wrong or it cost 11 million. How do you build any B&M for 11 million?

Exactly... Maybe a kiddie coaster and a flat ride , but B&M doesn't do flat rides nor kiddy coasters... There you go. Look at the land clearing , and the track... Not 11.million dollors..

Read the first sentence though. It says 11 million for a new ride. I'm having a hard time believing it as well , but I'm just pointing to what the facts in front of my face are saying.

Yep we will see in 8 days for sure. Also seeing how Carowinds presented this to the local government for tax breaks, wouldnt they have included the full price instead of 11 million. So that kind of puts it maybe being a flat ride or other attraction out of the question. I know if I was Carowinds I would have told them we are spending 25 million on a coaster. The more you spend the more of a tax break the gov will give you. Though after reading the artical again. This section caught my eye. "County Council members on Monday extended the fee/tax agreement for two more years, with current Carowinds owner Cedar Fair Entertainment pledging to spend another $14 million — bringing its total commitment to $28 million over the life of the agreement." Maybe Carowinds spent $11 million and Cedar Fair itself is booting the $14 million towards the coaster which equal's $25 million. "To date, Carowinds has spent about $14 million on the S.C. side of the park under the agreement".

Whatever type it is, at least we are getting a brand new b&m coaster. That's good enough for me. 11 million sounds about right to me for a hyper.

Also, I got surprised from my dad with an iphone. So I will now be tweeting from the park about construction and possibly from the announcement as well...but I may leave that to Carowinds Connection. However for future construction live trip reports look here: http://www.twitter.com/patchmantocpe/

8 days more of desperate speculation

2010 Projects could just mean they will be putting in bathrooms or food stands, or something else in the new plaza with the new ride, not necessarily more new rides. The article does say they'll spend $14 million over the next 2 years. That could mean about $3 million comes from 2010 projects and the other $11 come from expansions between 2010 and 2012. Or if we're saying they're spending $11 mill on the 2010 project, it could just be on the dirt moving, footer pouring, coster erection, and any new building construction not including the coaster cost. There is no way that the B&M will only cost $11 mill if D-back cost $22 mill to buy and install. Actually, let me rephrase that, there is no way the entire project only costs $11 mill for this year, the ride itself may only be $11 mill, but I believe it would be over $20 mill for the entire project.

The general public has no idea of the cost of a new coaster. It could be that CF sees the opportunity to split up the cost of this ride. 11mil now which will satisfy the original agreement, 14mil in the future which looks like they are going to be doing major upgrades to the park in the next few years, but actually probably not. The coaster won't be built before Dec 31. So technically they aren't doing anything wrong to get the tax breaks. Just know the $25mil is for the cost of the new Hyper and a little left over for other upgrades/flats. They are just using loopholes to get tax breaks. Big business economics folks.

I agree this has to be for either construction cost or materials alone. Even Raptor which was built 15 years ago cost 11.5 million

Maybe 11mil is what they are physically pumping in york county. They may not have included the price of the actual coaster in that price being that it wouldnt matter to york county because they arent getting the entire sum so what they are getting out of the deal was publicized.

Look at black mamba. Out of the entire price of the coaster literary half of it was for landscaping/theme elements.

And we all know no one will pay 100mil just for the coaster portion of expedition everest...
