Welcome to the forums!

5 acres is a pretty large site for a coaster (Fury's is about 8 for comparison) so who knows? If it's a GCI, it could still break a record. Maybe not a world record, but it could break a regional record like Intimidator did. Longest wooden coaster in the south? Lightning Rod is the current record holder at 3,800 feet.

I want to throw my completely uneducated guesses into the ring too!

Personally, I want Carowinds to get a huge launched Mack megacoaster or a state of the art log ride. Both would be completely unlike anything recently installed in the US.

But I recall someone on video (I believe Carowinds' head contractor) saying he wants to see a launched B&M wing after Fury... though that comment holds no real water even if I could find the video I'm referring to.

As for what I think is most likely, GCI all the way.

Let's do some "back to basic" speculating. Lets start with the name, Project "Alpha". Lets see . . . Alpah means the beginning, the start, the first. Could this be the first of it's kind or the start of a new expansion plan?

Well it seems that construction crews have moved over tot he WWF splash down area so construction seems to be moving quick at this time in the season

Honestly it could be anything. There hasn't been a solid rumor to back anything up. It's just as likely that this could be an RMC, a B&M, some sort of launch, etc.

Personally I'm basing my prediction of Edwardo's as he tends to be correct about new additions given that he has more insider knowledge. The park has done a great job at not letting any information leak, though I expect that to change within the next 2-3 months.

Echo Tarheel. I’ve been saying GCI just because that’s what’s makes the most sense to me. Granted Cedar Fair and I could have very different ideas of what the park needs.

By June I’ll bet we’ll know the name, general layout from blueprints, and maybe even the manufacturer.

In my opinion, I wouldn't be surprised to see a Launched GCI, If it's not that, Than it's most likely a Launch Coaster. Yes, Carowinds is in need of a good Wooden Coaster, But we already have a wooden coaster. We don't have a Launch coaster of any sort.

This isn’t in response to any previous post, I just need to jot down my random thoughts.

So the Cedar Fair and B&M friendship started in ‘08, and each year the chain purchased 1 B&M per year with the exception of ‘11, ‘17, ‘18 (2018 being one of B&M’s busiest years in recent memory, because China of course). B&M’s don’t come cheap and we know one confirmed B&M bought by Cedar Fair for the ‘19 season. Not saying it is impossible but I find it unlikely the chain would buy two B&Ms in one season.

As far as a launch coaster, correct me if I’m wrong but the last launch coaster installed by the chain was Pony Express back in ‘08, and Maverick was ‘07 but we know how much Cedar Fair loves Intamin these days. Not to mention launch coasters aren’t exactly the most reliable of rides. Also I’m only 25 but I swear I’ve heard we are getting a launch coaster my whole life simply because “we don’t have one”.

When it comes to GCI, the chain has added four since ‘07 and they are a few of the most well received GCI’s in the US. It’s also more realistic to see a “less expensive” addition like a GCI woodie in a year that the chain is already dropping 22 mil+ on a B&M. Not to mention they have a good working relationship with the company when t comes to refurbs like Ghostrider.

I have no clue what we are getting, as a GCI fanboy I know what I’d like to see the park get but for all we know we may end up with a giant frisbee and a water slide (I hope not). I just think when speculating it’s best to look at past investments to see what direction the chain may decide to go. Kings Island already had The Beast and Racer and they still ended up with Mystic Timbers.
