General Carowinds discussion
#90005
We had a huge conversation about the front gate, the pullers on top, the state seals, the terraced bridge, the entrance plaza, all which were different than the artists conception. I even posted a pic in response you your comment about CP's artist rendering and how it was different than the artists conceptions.

That's no different than this. It's a rendering of the concept. There's no reason to put a small amount of a slide in the bottom corner to draw your eye away from the main subjects.

I hate to pull the "I used to be in marketing and know what I'm talking about" card, but...

Regardless I'm glad the park confirmed that the old section remains with no loss of rides. That's the biggest surprise out if today's announcement.

Quick rough Paint job of possible placement:

[EDIT] This is based off Surfer Joe's turned into the Funnel Cake stand in the rendering.

I was actually pretty accurate with that one based on the one that was in the park.

The picture clearly shows the two rides y'all are talking about going where the large entrance to Carolina harbor (the one that's been closed) and the grassy area near the slides as placement for these new rides.

Do-si-do is 65x65. Zephyr is 53X53. That map overlay's proportions are off.

Zierer makes two different sizes of Wave Swinger:

One has an operating envelope of 59 feet and the larger one is 69 feet.

Zephyr is a Zierer Wave Swinger, your measurements is for the Zamperla Flying Carousel.

As expected, a new County Fair and four flat rides. Very good news, nice design and much needed upgrade to the fair concept. So the "four more" tease is now explained. But I do wonder what happened to the previously speculated Breakdance. And I still think some of the teases had suggested another larger attraction such as a giant frisbee, or ferris wheel, especially since that painting behind the game. Perhaps for the future. And it did seem as if a Sky Roller could be a possibility based upon Canada and some of the suggestions. And I wonder what "back in the woods" was all about, with the relocation of the service road. Perhaps there are still future plans, as well as the Dinosaur area. And I think the old County Fair will eventually be reworked or some new additions there, especially with YoYo. Perhaps a future launced coaster or woodie in a few years in one of these areas.

As for Winterfest, I am not sure about that. It already failed once before. I can see it being a success at other parks, but not necessarily Carowinds. Although I do like the Christmas lights on the Sky Tower each year. But if they could somehow add more lights and animated Christmas displays, then perhaps it could be successful. Remember the huge popularity of the old Christmas City at nearby Heritage USA. But now they have Charlotte Motor Speedway to compete with, as well as McAdenville. So it remains to be seen.

Winterfest 83 failed, Winter 05 did as planned and was annouced for 2006. Carowinds had already starting selling tickets for Winterfest 2006 before Cedar Fair canceled it.

We gotta realize that in most cases concept art is just . . . well . . . concept art. Why would they remove capacity when they really need more capacity? the rides could very easily fit without removing the slides. I will get to the bottom of this lol.

The slides for 2017 are the flagpoles for 2015.

Regardless of what is done to the slides, if they play around with the layout of that area, I hope they add a row of pavers or some sort of neat indication of the state-line on the ground. They have the sign in Carolina Harbor next to the lazy river, but I really wish they would have a physical line somewhere on the ground where you could see the state line. (Not paint. Paint would look great for a couple months then look like crap as it gets walked over and chipped up.) It needs to be pavers or something similar.

By the way... I don't believe the state flags in front of the new restaurant in Carolina Harbor are on the state-line either and they're probably not designed to be. It does lend itself to believing that though.
