General Carowinds discussion

If the coaster is only 295ft, I am pretty sure they will still advertise it as 300ft. Intimidator is 230ft and they says 232... sooo...... I don't thin 5 feet will make a difference and you wouldnt really notice it.... I would definitely love the coaster to be ABOVE the 300ft mark, but it really doesn't matter to me. Cool to see that about the German site though and more info about it. Cant wait to find out more abouit it but right now I am counting down the hours to Friday for NL2 so I can design the coaster  I still have not ruled out a wing coaster at all.... Maybe I will surf around and see if any track pictures have sprouted up or anything as of yet.... Maybe that will give us some hints :D

If the German site is correct, the 295ft could be the length of the drop, not the entire height from ground to top of the lift. Intimidator's drop is an example of what I mean. It doesn't go to ground level. The advertised height and drop length usually differ in the area of 10-20ft. Which means the height of our new giga could be 305ft with a drop of 295ft. Now, the ride length part is a bit perplexing. I can't imagine the length being shorter than Intimidator.

Google Earth says the date on these images are 8/29/2012, which means this green coaster you see, is a Flying Coaster in China

The date on this image 5/21/2012 is probably the first piece of track that arrived, meaning the track still at Clermont on 8/29 is likely some of the last to go.

Just for reference the "new" Carowinds images are from 11/9/2013. Not long after the park closed for the season.

If the site is accurate, and I have my doubts, the length would definitely lend some credence to the rumor that this may not be a straightforward giga a la Leviathan, but a wing coaster version. I still find that rumor to be a tad far fetched, but a winged giga could be shorter due to the extra drag created by the trains.

I honestly hope that this ride isn't a "Wing Giga" for couple of good reasons...

1) The force and stress that would be on the wings/arms.
2) Think of the force that would be on a rider. Because of the design of the train, moving at a higher speed it'll cause a lot of blackouts. In my opinion.

I think if it's going to be a "Wing" coaster then it needs to be 200 to 250 feet. It can be an out and back like Gatekeeper (That would be nice) or Compact.

HOWEVER, if it's a Giga, I think it needs to me more of an out and back like Leviathan or MF. Personally...MF would be the best Idea because we have Little Timmy. But not like I-305. Giga shouldn't be compact. I mean it is...then like that guy said..."It's Twistee" and don't get me wrong, I love twist and turns...But I love air time.

I know I can't have it in both worlds and this isn't BK....But that's my thought on this.

On a side note...I really need to start posting here more....Just been busy.

Ahhhh so its the coaster track that I was sitting on when I stopped by the play in 2012 :D I got a video walking around it as well. I agree with swampfox, the height and drop length etc. maybe what they are talking about. It looks to me like the german site was just announcing about the coaster, nothing more than we already know. I dont think they are 100% accurate and just said over 295ft.... Still though they may say the heigh of the coaster is like "325" when its actually 320 or 315 as well. Who knows. I also agree that it will be a giga wing, just like I have always believed hahah. NL2 comes out tomorrow so when that happens I cant wait to see what people come up with, even though there is no wing coaster in the game as of yet, it will happen later.... but we can still make a B&M giga :) Oh and I am still saying it will NOT be like skyrush, unless its like we speculated before, a new "wing style" similar to intamins thing, but I am still 100% saying B&M.

What everyone needs to remember is that the height was listed as over 90 meters. In the metric world 92 meters gets you to over 300 ft. In Europe there is not really any significant reason to list an odd number such as 92 meters as the official height. It's the same as us in the US when speculating on height or length. We wouldn't say a coaster is going to stand over 302 ft. More than likely we would say it's going to stand over 300 ft.

By the way, just throwing a number of 302 out there as an example. I really can't imagine building a coaster to 295 ft and not getting a few more feet in there to cross that threshold.
