the reason i think it's timeline is because it's the new PARAMOUNT movie! why would they go with some movie that's been out for a few years(that i don't even think is paramounts)

Star Trek is Paramount. They own and run Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas... And just because it is "old" - they do still play Star Trek on TV - doesn't have anything to do with it... Star Trek, as well as Tomb Raider, would make excellent themes.

Why does it matter, it is only a name. This may of been a hint:The sternwheeler was to be used in the theming.

Well, the Sternwheeler actually wasn't going to be used as part of the theming for the ride. And as the 'old' argument, that didn't stop them from naming a new-for-99 coaster after a 1986 movie: Top Gun.

Top Gun was made in 1993, not 1986.
