General Carowinds discussion

I know the tunnel here won't be quite as enclosed as the one on Top Gun, but I know that Top Gun's had a great mist feature (Mostly when it was actually named Top Gun). I know that such a mist feature hasn't been stated as in the plans for Fury, but I was wondering if that is a possibility. (And too if the mist still *occasionally* operates on Afterburn).

I joined this forum just to ask this question (HI ALL!): You mean to tell me you can just pull right up to the park and take pictures? The closest I have been was coming over 485 from 77. I wanted to drive in closer just to see, but figured about as close as you could get would probably be KFC parking lot and thought it would be pointless.

Reposting again because it can be difficult to read this whole thread:
The new drop off lot, between Cabelas and Intimidator, offers a good view of Fury in perspective with the other rides.
Also, drive down Carowinds Blvd past Thunder Road and turn right towards the campground. Stop near the campground for a good view of the lift hill and drop (be polite and don't go past the security office)

I thought someone said that the drop off lot was closed. Is it not? :?

^^^ It is closed, but there are just a few traffic cones so you can't drive into the area. When I went I just walked into the drop off lot, and it seemed like there wasn't any problem. :)

Not that I saw! :shifty:

It looks like construction will continue today! Track is already being transported to the construction site! If they continue working hard like this (putting in 4+ pieces of track a day) then it might be done before the end of January! :D

So they went to put the exit of the tunnel track in and they put it all the way down in the trench and never connected it, now they've pulled it out and appear to be bringing in a backhoe in to dig out some dirt.
They must not have had the ground profiled correctly.

Well now the backhoe is driving away.
A bunch of guys were walking around down in the trench. Maybe they've determined it's okay.

.....depending on the arrival time of the remaining truck loads of steel track....

I went to the drop off area yesterday. Yes their are cones up but you can stop on the side of the road safely. There are not any "no trespassing" signs.
Can I make one suggestion. If Carowinds continues to let us walk into the area please don't leave trash from your visit. I picked up many wrappers and bottles during my visit. Maybe that is why they "coned off" the driveway.

Ah, now they've brought in a smaller piece of digging equipment and they're down in the trench digging out some of the angle.

Track piece back in to check the fit.
Now back out and more digging.

And the process keeps repeating.
I wonder if all the rain caused this or if it was just off to begin with?

Seems like I remember the "trench" being 30 feet deep on the plans. (That doesn't mean the coaster will be 30 feet deep because of the supports, footers, actual height of the train, etc.) More than likely it will not be that deep and the bridge will act as a pseudo "guillotine" to the riders and be another exciting point of the ride. Of course, if that is the case, there will be plenty of room. It will just LOOK close.

I know myself I had trouble over the holidays with my nephews playing with Legos and Lincoln Logs. Couldn't quite get it right. And I can imagine Fury is much larger and much more complex.

I don't think everything always fits as 'perfectly' as it seems from our remote perspective. When I was there for the lift hill topping off, I was surprised at how long they spent banging on something to get the piece in place properly. From the ground (and cameras I'm sure) it did look effortless.

I'm assuming it was a bull pin or something similar they were banging on to get the bolt holes lined up.

It always amazes me how coasters are constructed. Has there ever been a problem with a slip up that causes construction to stop? Im not talking about finishing then realizing things like on maverick...

Am I missing something? With the new entrance plaza, isn't there suppose to be another building structure on the end of the ticketing building slightly behind the tail piece that sticks out closest to the the bridge for season pass processing? At the same time I do realize that the flyround animation are just renderings and things could have changed.
