General Carowinds discussion
#72266
There was an interview on the WBTV radio station today and apparently right now they are using Nylon wheels which makes it move faster so at the moment, the ride is probably moving faster than it is going to later this month when it opens. When it opens, they are going to use Polyurethane wheels which will move slower on the tracks. When I say slower I mean like 5-10 miles an hour slower so not that much slower but it's still slower.

At Carowinds is there any way to ask a ride operator to wait for the next train and grab the front row (or back row)? I really want to try both the front and back when I go on April 5th. Thanks guys, you all are really a helpful and fun bunch!

I usually ride front row on every coaster at Carowinds. I just tell the person at the entrance that I want to ride up front and then I walk there. Intimidator has an extra long railing for front row waiters because this is a common request.

Which video?

I'm not sure how a POV could be a lie. The speed difference is so small that you aren't going to notice it... Don't worry, it is still going to be Furious. What they are doing by using the nylon wheels are they are trying to calibrate all of the computers while the ride engineers are there so once the computers have calibrated, they can switch to the Polyurethane wheels and if all works as it is supposed to, the ride will work flawlessly.

I just Googled 'Huffington Post', roller coaster, and 'Leviathan' and nothing came up. This is on a whole different level.

I'm not saying that it isn't being covered, but overall it's not being covered way more than any other coaster of its size. Which is, like, less than 10.

So Huff Post is now the coaster authority? lol

Edit:Leviathan's premier on Huff Post (number 5):

And just for fits and giggles, here's their article on SFGAm building the Biggest, Tallest, Fastest wooden coaster, Goliath last year:

I don't know if it's hitting over 100 mph but I am pretty sure it is going over 95. And yes it will get to 95 probably as a minimum and all depending on the weight distribution of the train, it could go faster but I can't see it getting over 100 mph with the new wheels just because of the trim brakes. I am sure it's possible but I haven't researched that information further so I couldn't really tell you. Hope this helps. Just keep in mind, there were and still are engineer's and designers working on this ride for several years prior to now so what they are telling us in more than likely accurate. Trust them when they say it's going to go 95 MPH.

No - At the announcement they said 75. It goes (75 MPH)
