Does anyone know any information on the people shot in the Wave Pool in 87. I tried searching for it but dont get anything.

I've heard that some one went hunting and the bullet went stray. But this is not a fact at all.

It was sooner than in 1987? I thought it was like only 4 or 5 years ago? I dunno exactly what happend. I heard that sumone was shooting from a target practice place and the bullet went through the woods to the pool. I dont know i wish i could find out. Ill do sum searching...

If I remember to the best of my knowledge, it happened in the 80s. There was somebody (a girl I think) that was killed in the water park by a stray bullet that came from outside the park. It was just a freak accident.

I will echo Max. It definately did happen. I think it was 1987. It was a young girl that was sadly killed by the high powered rifle while she played in the water park.

Another tidbit of info. A lady I work with knows the mother of the guy that did the shooting. She told me he was a troubled young man and also mentally unstable.

I don't think the person meant to kill someone. Like said above, he was at a shooting range outside of the park, and unfortunatly a bullet he fired missed the target and went into the park.

I remember hearing that some girl simply drowned in the pool when it was known as Rip Tide Reef, but obviously that wasn't the truth.

From what I heard i will also have to Echo Max. I can't Echo Swampfox because thats not what I heard but I did hear that it was a stray Bullet that stuck someone in the Park. NOW of course that is only what I heard. I am not sure if it is true or false but that is the only time i heard of a death.

My parents were there of the shooting. They told me that it came from a shooting range nearby. They evacuated the entire park and were searching everybody when they were going through the exits. They told me it was chaos.

Yes, now you guys are clearing it up. It was a stry bullet, shot from a firing range. It was determined to be accidental. No charges were filled. Just a very sad, tradic episode of being in the wrong place at the really wrong time.

I was actually at the park that day for my birthday. It was in 1988 the last year of White Lightning. She was a teenager from the Rockhill area that was babysitting another little girl. She was a student from either RockHill HS or Northwestern HS. I was actually in line for WhiteLightning when it happend. If you remember the wave pool (location of the shooting) was back behind WL. I didn't know what happened though until I returned home and saw it on the local news. We knew something was up though, becuase of the helicopter flying around and the long exit lines to leave the park. Security was actually checking people as they left the park because at the time no one knew where the stray bullet came from.

That is pretty much what happened ^. Just to add to that, it wasn't exactly a legal shooting range. Some guys had set up targets that lined up with the wave pool. They had high power rifles and the bullets actually went through the targets and into the wave pool. There were actually a few people injured, if I remember correctly the girl that died, the bullet went through a boy's shoulder and into her neck, instantly killing her. Another bullet went hit someone in the leg I believe.
