That's great!!!! It's something different for a change. Plus the Carowinds Cafe was always closed last season.

Some additional tidbits from the Periscope opening date announcement:

Cobra trains makeover.
Hurler re-tracking 2nd and 3rd banked turns.
Taste of Carolinas returns and will be spread throughout the park.
Cirque Imagine returns.
Old County Fair may be re-named Country Crossroads.
There has been talk of maybe retro-naming Scrambler and a lighting package.
New funnel cake flavors.
Season pass parking same as last year.

Bring back the kaleidoscope name and add new lighting effects. Here's a crazy thought, set up mirrors around the ride to project lights in different directions.

I like the idea of bringing back the Country Crossroads name too.

I'm getting ready to listen to the periscope now. I also heard that they maybe doing some foundation work on Screamweaver. The exit side of the ride the foundation is actually starting to touch the bottom of the cars. Hopefully a lighting package will come to the ride in the near future too.

The original plan for Kaleidoscope when the park was first being built would have been a great idea. They wanted to have a large metal "Dome structure" over the ride with lights and things like that. Along with music to set the tone with the lights. However, an incident at another park made the owners change their mind about adding it over the ride. Several years later, due to bees and an incident at another park, almost all of the tunnels throughout the park were removed.

Rapids tunnel collapsed after a winter storm in the early 2000s. Cyclone's tunnel was removed a few years later due to Bats. Thunder Road's tunnel was removed between 2006 and 2011 and that is all I know.

I hope, but wonder if GCI is doing the retracting. It would be nice. Honestly, the two turns they are repairing are the only rough parts of the ride. Everything else is great.

Some fine fella asked some of those important questions . . .

It's interesting that they denied Vortex becoming a floorless coaster anytime soon. Not that I would imagine they'd give it away if it were happening, but I would've thought they'd give a more ambiguous answer.

Regardless, I'm still hoping it happens (and thinking it will, even with the denial). The conversion would take Vortex from a mediocre ride to potentially the fourth-best in the park.

The type of answer was given cause they aren't the enthusiasts we are. They look at things from a business prospective and they see vortex still as a viable part of the line up as is. Vortex is still a popular ride as well is hurler.

Anybody have an idea to all the lights are on in the park right now? Fury, Windseeker, Afterburn, Nighthawk and Timmy all are lit up. I do wish they would turn off the blinking aspect of the lift lights on Intimidator and just let them run or chase up the hill like they use to do. It just looks weird to me but then again who am I.

^Let's hope it is a lighting test. Last summer, I noticed Fury had several strips of the green LED's missing or burned out. I recall one strip on the lower end of the lift hill and a few others on the beehive facing as the train leaves the station. To be fair, I have not been on a full circuit night ride since 2015 so I can't speak for the green LED tunnel lights, are they still working as intended?
Funny, I always assumed LED's had an impressive lifespan and maybe its a circuit issue, but they absolutely shouldn't be burning out after just 1 or 2 seasons.
