In my opinion I wouldn't buy one if I planned to go 3 times, maybe even 4. Why? Because I don't think Carowinds (or parks in general!!) are really WORTH their gate price.
I don't remember the price of a single Carowinds ticket, but let's say it's $50. I do think the first visit of a year is worth that. But after you've already been once in a season, IMO the value of going a second time in the season is worth a bit less, idk, $25. Then after I've already been to a park twice in a season, I personally wouldn't want to pay more than $20 for a third visit, and so on, decreasing slower as time goes on, approaching an asymptote of maybe $10-$15?
I just made those numbers up but basically in my mind a true "break even" (based on personal value rather than ticket value) is between 4-5 trips. If I knew I could only go a maximum of 2-3 times, I'd probably scrap it and just go once.
This is all just personal opinion, and may change when I become a "real adult" with a regular work schedule and family. But in my experience I usually either go to a park once, or I would go to Carowinds like 5 to 12 times a season when I was younger. In high school I only went 2-3 times per season and I always felt like I was on the borderline of getting value for my pass, but back then the passes were only like $80!
