I know there is debate on the accuracy/validity of the Golden Ticket Awards. However, it is interesting to note that the GP doesn't vote in the GTA, they require experienced and well traveled enthusiasts to be on the voting panel. Fury 325 won the best steel coaster in 2017 and I305 was ranked #13 - by enthusiasts.

So while there are enthusiasts and sites out there who think that a coaster can only be the best if it displaces internal organs, a vast majority of enthusiasts that I personally know put heavy ranking on a coaster if it is thrilling, well paced, and worthy of marathoning.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love RMC hybrid coasters (with the steel I-beam - the ones with topper track are wooden coasters). The problem I am having with them (and I think others as well) is that the 'market' has become very saturated with them and they all kind of run together (at least for me). My favorite steel coaster is a RMC hybrid - however, I have a hard time differentiating between them to pick a single one of them for a top coaster. I do think Steel Vengeance will differentiate itself but I have not yet ridden it.

That state line record is one of those records you brag about when your park has no other records to brag about and you're very desperate for something. It's time to retire that, and only trot that out when we really, really have to.

That conversation would go something like this...

Cedar Point Fan: Most of our coasters hold world records.

Carowinds Fan: Some of our coasters cross over into South Carolina.

Cedar Point: Okay!

It's not really a record so much as a feature.

As for the topic at hand, I rarely see people hating on Fury. A ton of people love it, and it was #1 on the GTA steel poll for a reason. Anyone who dismisses it either likes even more intense rides like Intimidator 305 (which is fine, opinions are cool) or simply hasn't ridden it.
