General Carowinds discussion

^Yes there were issues with Saturator, the pipes that supplied guns to the water elements under the ride would get clogged and have to be cleaned out. Carowinds did a major refurbishment to Saturator in 2006 that included new paint and cleaning the pipes out to make most of Saturator’s water elements work again.

Things were either turned off because the pipes were blocked or it wasn’t warm enough to keep a line.

Forgive my ignorance, but what issues were those? I vaguely remember that ride (never rode it myself), but I much prefer what took its place.

I dont know exact problems, some on here might, but I know that the water jets and things didnt work majority of the time. It also got stuck in the middle of the ride a few times. I have pictures of it stuck going around the first curves lol. The track was also very rusted in the spots where the water constantly ran and hit the rails.... Anyone know more specifics on those issues?

Issues? This isn't true at all. It closed down because it was a pain in the a$$ and expensive to run. Nothing more.
The water jets worked, they were just turned off to save money.
Coasters get stuck. It happens.
Coaster track rusts when it gets wet. Physics.

As rollerbee said above the pipes and things got clogged etc. Yes things rust, especially when water is constantly flowing on steel track..... I dont think shutting off the water was anything to do with cutting costs as water would be on, just not flowing like it was supposed to.... I am sure it was expensive to run and I think towards the end ridership was pretty low, low capacity anyways.

I know a setpoint and a Mack water coaster are totally different things.... Point is dont think carowinds would build another water coaster after removing one, but you can never tell...

Back to the ACTUAL TOPIC this thread is about....

I added a few new things on my page http://www.facebook.com/carowindsfansonly

I will be at the park tomorrow and will see if anything new is going on. Hopefully they will be able to continue working and it wont rain much.

I will also be at the park tomorrow (I’ll be there in the morning). I’ll try and see if I can find anything that’s changed, but from the pictures today and yesterday, it doesn’t seem like a whole lot has changed.

It was a nice day at the park. I got there when it opened, and left around 12:00. Not crowded at all, and I was able to get the first public train on Fury for the day (front row of course!) and was just myself and another gentleman on the train. I met a few enthusiasts there, and met a gentleman from RCDB on my way out of the park.

On my way out from the park, I tried to get a ride on sky tower so I could get some more aerial shots of the construction, but the ride was down, so that was kind of a bummer. I did get a few ground level pictures, but I won’t post since those are probably repeat images. Not a whole lot has changed from what I can see since I was there last (which was Friday).

Thanks for the detailed update! Front row on Fury is the greatest.
We are at that stage where everything looks the same. There probably won't be much difference in the way everything looks until Footers start getting poured.

I thought clearing started around the same time as this coaster. But I could be wrong. Someone with more time could probably go back to the construction thread and find out.

Oh, okay. Maybe I was just wrong. Either way I love the excitement poured into this coaster. I know this coaster is gonna be a good one, as we are being transformed into the CP of the South.
