General Carowinds discussion

only the red is hyper, the other is looping, as is evident with the loop pieces that can be seen in several of the pictures

I was thinking about the whole nascar themeing... does anyone know if nascar was involved with the days of thunder in the action theatre.. or was that just paramount cause it was a movie theme.??

One other thing to dream that maybe we get both coasters like the dueling dragons @ Islands of adventure. (even though they are both inverts they have 2 different track layouts). maybe its a floorless and a hyper intertwining each other that would be cool.? right.. One can dream!!

Jay's pic doesn't look too different from one of these:

This was by none other than Wormy back in October, showing how SFOG's Goliath could mostly fit in the flume spot on the left, and then another pic on the right speculating on a hyper running along the front of the park. That speculation pic looks to be a VERY good guess at this point.

How concerned are you folks about information coming out of Kings Dominion concerning a new coaster? All the sudden that red Mega track has become not such a sure thing for Carowinds. Could we get another looper (yellow) and would you be happy with that? I would prefer the tallest coaster in the southeast with one of the new B&M hypers. Oh well this is getting very interesting now that KD is in play. What would really work at Dominion is a Sea World type flyer over the lake. We know that Carowinds is getting something, we just don't know what. I will feel better about the hyper once they start ripping out a big chunk of the parking lot.

The park could easily use some of the parking lot for the ride, then pave some of the grassy "overflow" area and have no net loss of parking spaces. They could also use that big circular field that the entrance road wraps around for parking with a bit of reconfiguring,

...makes more sense to pave that for parking and build right next to the existing park using what's now parking.

Another good guess!

I personally don't care if it's a Hyper or a floorless as Carowinds needs both. I just hope it's something over 150ft tall.

I did notice on the KD plans something about a splashdown so that could either be a hyper or a flyer. KD needs both.

My honest opinion is that KD will get a hyper since they seem to bring in more numbers than carowinds then maybe Carowinds will get a hyper 3-5 years from now. I've waited this long. Another 3-5 years wont matter.

Then again why can't both Carowinds & KD get hypers next year? CF seems to be throwing in coasters like candy anyway. We all know what happened to SF when they did this.

Actually it seems that CF is taking a more conservative approach. Six Flag was buying 2 to 3 at a time. CF is only doing one a year, which I think is a healthy pace considering the number of parks they now own. This is the very reason I don't expect to see Fair buy two for 2010. Honestly if I were placing bets; considering the stage of the flume demolition, the parking lot markings, words of the president, lack of a recent substantial addition, the leaked public records, and Fair's recent purchases, regardless of what is coming out of Dominion, - Carowinds has this bagged. The time table is just too short for Dominion to receive a hyper with a splash down. They are talking about rugged terrain, relocating a service road and doing something with the lake. And the documents are dated only two weeks ago. Maybe this is for the following year? At Carowinds, save for the flume area, most of the coaster will be over parking lot, which requires almost zero excavations.

Since KD just got Dominator last year which is larger then any addition Carowinds has ever recieved, and that Carowinds has already started executing whatever new addition plan they have, and KD is still in the planning stages, the I think Carowinds will get the hyper in 2010, and if the economy holds up at KD, they will get one in 2011.
