General Carowinds discussion

Drove by this afternoon - from the outlet mall across from the park, you can see the entire fenced off parking lot area without having to enter the park. Grabbed a couple of shots of this, but they suck so bad they're not worth posting. There was no asphalt being pulled up that I could see. My guess is that they have to finish their business around the flume before, if, they get to that. Dropping by tomorrow to see how that's going.

Since I had some extra time, I thought I would take one of your construction pictures and make a rendering of what I thought the 2010 ride would be like.

It's for entertainment purposes only, so don't critique it too badly. :)

I googled it, and found that I posted a trip report to RRC (the oldtimers will know what that is) about a visit to the park on August 10th 2003, in which I talked about riding the Sternwheeler on it's last day of operation. I mentioned that the only sign of anything going on was some orange markers on the island. Stealth / BORG was only a rumor at the time.

So they had done no real work on BORG that late in the season, and it was up and running on opening day 2004. Well, one train, at least. Also remember we had a significant snowfall in February that year.

This is one of the reasons that I can buy into the hyper theory. The flume could have run until the park went back to weekend-only operation at the end of summer, and they still probably would have had enough time to construct a 150-foot floorless or something similar. Remember too that CF kept Saturator around an extra season, or at least part of one, until they finalized the plans for a replacement. They could have let it go SBNO, or removed it, but instead used it as long as they could.

Starting as early as they have on the flume site hints at something "big". It doesn't guarantee it, of course.

^ I've been to Carowinds TWICE (02, 05) and that Stern Wheeler was one of my Favorite attractions there.

Its too bad they couldn't have kept the boat anyway for aesthetic purposes. I didn't ride Borg when I went as the line was too long, I actually rode it as "Stealth" when I went to Great America. (yes, I have been all around the US)

Thanks, Wormy, I'm glad you like it. I'm excited to see how well it matches up, too.
It was about this time last year when our splash pool started being constructed, but you have more soil to move, so we'll see if they build something like that. Our Track for Diamondback didn't show up to the public until Late July, so I'm not sure how long it was on-site. (The Steel Plant in Batavia - that makes a lot of the B&M track- is about 15 miles away from Kings Island, so perhaps they kept using it as a staging area)

The only reason Borg is still so popular is because it is a huge impressive looking structure. Hell even when I look at it, it still gives me an erector set, but once I'm done riding, I roll over and go to sleep without thinking much about it. Am I talking about a coaster or a 20 year marriage?

Not sure, but with the new make-up, it looks 10X better!!

Ahem, Hurler?

And lately, Thunder Road?

Nightborg isn't bad, but after finally getting my Firechicken credit 2 weeks ago, it's still my #2 Vekoma flyer (Batwing is #1).

I would be able to say Thunder Road if it wasn't so boring on the way back. To me it's over at the turnaround point. Hurler is very fun sometimes tho bc its so friggin FAST.
