Could it possibly be that the coaster will be a parking lot coaster?

I'm just saying. Look at the layout of the fence and the fact that it doesn't look like they are clearing anywhere else.

wonder why they have not filled in that part of the pond in maybee for a splash down? or to just keep all of us guessing i hope they recycle it it would be nice to see a part of the wild thornberrys ride live on in the new ride

Splash down seems likely since it is lower than the rest of the land around it.

Looking at it again, I'm not sure that's what it is. Diamondback's splashdown is a long section of track, and I don't see that fitting so to close the park and where I'm assuming the station would be. Of course it will probably turn out to be exactly that.

If you notice, those huge boulders were removed from the pond area as I thought they would be. I wouldn't be surprised if they are used later on.

Now that those are out of the way, I think we'll see real progress on a splash pool if thats the case.

Things are really going to start taking shape in June... Enjoy the ride!

Sadly we skipped Carowinds on Monday. It poured and I was on the road for 11 hours.

I think we are all setting up for a major dissappointment. The area of dirt that is cleared is no where big enough for a hyper coaster, let alone a splash down. Unless they plan to use the entire parking lot area for something big I think we are looking at a "dive" machine type coaster.

Carowinds has more than enough room for a hyper. Sure it may be a parking lot coaster (hopefully not), but we have the room. Besides, I think it could go in between the season pass lot and normal parking. It's a big area, easily good enough for at least a couple bunny hills and some helixes. Not to mention they have a pretty good sized chunk of pavement fenced off in the parking lot. But you may be right, and I pray you aren't. Remember the hyper coaster B&M track.... And hope it doesn't go to KD.....

was there over the holiday weekend and noticed the parking lot has a bit of torn up asphalt at the very end of the fenced off part. Is it possible they fenced off that whole area simply to give the trucks going in and out of there a clear path and avoid the parked cars? That maybe nothing is being built in the parking lot and just going where the dirt is?

that is exactly what it is for right now, possibly for storage later on, but for now it is a construction entrance

I think it is safe to say that yes the coaster WILL go into the parking lot. All signs point to that at this early stage. I would say that by looking at the diagram it is rather easy to trace where it is going and where it will turn around at. i would guess there will be a Helix or two along with something that might set it out from the others but again that is just hear say.

And this brings me to this point and does it really matter if it does go into the Parking lot folks? I mean it is something that will brand new and that is something that some of you have not saw at this park in a number of years. Just be happy that they are bringing a coaster to the park instead of letting it just sit as is. I know people will start to complain when it is announced that it will be a parking lot coaster but that is just how life goes.

I am sure there are afew people on this board that knows the layout and what makes it what it is. Just sit back and enjoy the progress of dirt moving because I think it is about to get interesting. Just Enjoy the Ride.

Thunder Road was a parking lot coaster when it opened in 1976. I have photos that clearly show this. It's not big deal to me. And who's to say that they will not fill in the paved area with landscaping eventually.

When I heard Dominator was going to be built in the parking lot, I had visions of Scream East.

But KD did a very nice job with the ride I think, and it kicks *ss too on top of that, like it never did at Geauga Lake.

I think Carowinds will at least rip up all the pavement and plant grass if that is the route they are going to take.

This will be their signature ride, if it turns out to be a hyper. I can't imagine them halfway doing it.

Plus, this will give us all great opportunities to take pictures and video! No hiding the ride in the Ohio woods for us.

Think about this, Thunder Road is still a parking lot coaster. While you are on Thunder Road you only notice the parking lot around the ride, also Thunder Road was the park's star attraction until Afterburn, and even in 2006 got more riders in a season than Afterburn.

The parking lot has never been an issue for me. Lets be realistic, after a couple of seasons, few will even remember that a parking lot was there. Plant some trees and in a few years it will be a forest.

I couldn't care less about the path it travels on or whether it's trees/water/cars/parking, etc. I just am curious like others how large the ride will be. My gut is that they wouldn't fence off something that bulges out in a few places like it does for no reason. I agree that there must be some sort of turn, helix etc out there. They'll make it attractive whatever they build, and you'll see it from far away since they're sticking it out front.
