General Carowinds discussion
#28154
I went to Carowinds Monday morning and the park was almost empty. I was able to ride the cyclone multiple times without getting up.

I was able to get some good snapping on the flyers again with no line.

Even the Cobra didn't really have a line, though they wouldn't let anyone ride again without walking around even though there was no one waiting for that particular seat.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to ride Afterburn. They said it was going to be down until the afternoon.

I did go up in the skytower and get a couple of pics. Here is one of the ongoing construction. They have almost finished building the fence around Dora. There was a lot of heavy machinery moving dirt around. In the bottom left corner you can see them loading up the big boulders into the back of a dump truck.

I was out there as well. I'll get my pics uploaded shortly, but yesterday I walked down the fence snooping and there are markers out there in that section of fence that juts out into the parking lot. So after looking at that, it seems pretty safe to say that there will be a helix there since the markers form a circle or square shape.

Here's some pics:

Hmmm... what is this strange code?

As you can see with my expert photography skills, there are markers out in that section of fence that juts out into the parking lot.

More markers and such.

The gates are open! But for what?
Image

Look! They are sneaking the track in, in dump trucks! They are even red dump trucks!
Image

The flume sign is gone. Maybe Max will get it to auction off at C3?
Image

Dora sings: "Don't fence me in!" Oh well, too late.
Image

Looks like the sunken section is now flat.
Image

There's a bit of debris left from the flume, but it is almost completely gone now.
Image

And finally...the only construction I can actually confirm! Carowinds is following Dollywood and other parks getting one of those dryer things over by White Water Falls. Get ready to pay to dry off!

Just a thought from all the great pic's everyone has posted. Is it possible that someone could get on rocket power airtime and get some closer pics of the dirt area? Or is it to risky from park attendents get you for taking pictures? Just a though for some other angles. Everyne keep up the grat pics. Only time will tell can't wait for 2010.

I will venture a guess and say that I have broken the 'code' of the footers after having seen them in person. They are all C, some number, then L or R. C most likely stands for column, then the numbers seem to go in numerical order so that is probably the column number, then the obvious right or left indicator. So C57R means column 57 right. Nothing too extraordinary there. And because of the way these markers are laid out, it is pretty safe to assume this thing will be B&M, not Intamin.

Okay, I decided to update my layout as well.

Well this is exciting. It will take more supports to really judge for sure, but based on just the few we see there, Kings Dominion is getting a coaster that is not B&M. Someone pointed out on http://kdfansite.com/ that it came in shipping containers, which possibly means it is from overseas rather than a US facility.

Things get a little more interesting now! We are either getting screwed again, or our coaster is so much bigger than KD's, that it's taking longer to manufactuer and/or ship. I can't wait for our stuff to start showing up if it ever does!

It's clear at this point that both parks are getting major roller coasters for 2010. That's great news for everybody, especially for those of us who live (for now, at least) right smack in between the two parks.
