General Carowinds discussion

Splashdowns are a bit gimmicky anyways... I would take more helix or a bunny hop over a splashdown any day

Wormy.....Is that my Plantation Sq station?? Sure looks different from my 73-74 days! I guess I need to go to Carowinds again some day. What are good low attendance days?

Yeah Dave, sadly it looks a little bare these days. To answer your question, early Mon-Thurs and early Sundays are the best time to go.

Wasn't that whole hyper under the bridge thing played out a long time ago? Granted, I wasn't around for that discussion, but I can read.

IMO, aside from maintenance vehicles, nothing should EVER go under that bridge again, unless it goes CHOO CHOO! CHOO CHOO! :D

What if anything does a splashdown add to the ride experience? To me, it doesn't seem to add much, but of course I haven't ridden DB. I would rather the money go into something else than the splash down.

Speaking of the train....

Since MJ has died, and they need to sell things off from Neverland..... could Carowinds get our old train back?? Would it be worth it?

For the riders, it appears to be just a gimmick.

Now, if the spray catchers were at the FRONT of the FIRST train, and direct the spray OVER the trains.. THEN that would be cool on a HOT day.....

But then you have safety concerns..... people slipping getting on and off the ride... so..... probably won't happen......

Personally, I dont think the splashdown adds anything to Diamondback other than one last bit of airtime after the final helix. In the very front seat if feels kinda like you're skimming over water which would be cool if it was a bigger lake. And in the very last row you can get a little bit of a mist on you. It looks awesome when you're watching it, but doesn't add much when riding it.

Well....interesting you asked.......
I have been e-mailing with the current owners of Carowinds loco No. 1 Melodia. They have been contacted by the co-owners of Neverland ranch to see if they would be interested in buying Carowinds No. 2! Strange how things go around. I'll bet the folks at Neverland don't know the two locos were team mates at Carowinds! I hope it works out as I could visit both locos in one trip...

IMHO Carowinds will never get a train again. Liability issues too great and no 'thrills' for the under 25 gang.
.sorry to get off topic a bit.....

Not sure what those concrete boxes are...my guess is as good as everyones...but I agree that its something to do with drainage for water... I cant wait til they start putting some of this stuff in the ground so we can get a better idea of where everything will go (i.e. the station) I first thought that the station would be somewhere near where the log flumes entrance was...but now i dont think so. From the looks of some of the pictures where it looks like they dug the "ditch" I am wondering if that is where they could put a water stream (like how diamondback has). I dont know though.... keep up the good work with the updates! I hope I can get down to the park soon and get some good pictures to contribute.

Probably for drainage since KD is doing the same thing on their construction site.I don't think the concrete blocks are for footers as they usually use wooden forms for those & only woodies use pre-cast round footers to support the structure so my guess is that they're for drainage as well.

Didn't plan on doing an update today as I found myself at the park this afternoon for a reason other than usual. Wasn't even going to get on the Skytower - starting to develop a love/hate relationship with that old thing. I sincerely hope that cam is turned on in three weeks, if not sooner. Got to get that monkey off my back!

Got on the tower anyway. Wasn't going to even post the obligatory shot, but the lighting conditions at 6PM were too good to pass up:

White flags have appeared by Pavillion 2. Most likely for an excavation route. At least that's my guess, what the heck do I know?

Quite a bouquet....

The construction trailer has moved from its previous location to beside the all important gate:

And unrelated to construction, but Final Summons maze walls are being pulled out of storage:
