Why are you wondering if they recieved their surprise? They are obviously front of the line passes for opening day.

For the above question, yes, it is possible, but I'm sure it would add quite a bit to the cost. Also, I doubt a park would do that.

Could it be built? Well... Yes, the technology is there to make it happen. However, the real question is: would they? I'm venturing to say no. Here's why:

When a coaster is launched it is designed to go through the course at a designed speed. The main concern here being the effects of g-forces on the riders. Finding a perfect median of g-forces at different speeds on different elements would be very dificult, if not imposible. Imagine gently going over a hill on a traditional hyper. Now imagine adding a few miles per hour on that. Sounds like it might not be very comfortable.

However, the likelihood of having a B&M launch coaster is slim to none. It's common knowledge that Walter and Claude don't like two things: launches and heights over 300 feet. They stick to some pretty traditional ideas. They're not big into one-trick ponies, like Intamin. Though, I don't know anything officialy about our coaster.

That definitely makes sense. I was thinking more along the lines of just enough launch to get the train the majority of the way up the lift hill, where the chain takes over (in a similar fashion to the end of a boomerang coaster.) This would give a consistant ride experience. I know B&M aren't into taking chances, and that's just dandy with me.

Are there any actual quotes out there where Walter or Claude have stated they would never do either of those things? If not, then it seems to be this is just another one of those things that became "common knowledge" in the coaster enthusiast community based on rumors and assumptions.

It seems to me that B&M simply like to work at their own pace and take their time to perfect anything they do. Even if it is not our ride, I certainly expect to some day see a launched coaster from them. I'm sure when Universal came along and started asking about it they simply had not developed one, and were not going to rush one on the park's schedule. It's not like B&M has always stuck to convention. They developed both a floorless coaster and a flying coaster, but they perfected them until they were just as reliable and comfortable as their other rides. I don't see why they would never even consider the idea of developing a launched ride.

I dont look at launched coasters as having downtime. Flight of fear seems to work around the clock with no problem as well as hulk...

It seems the intamins have problems with launches

Beacuase I havent recieved anything yet, so I was just curious. She said it would be a couple weeks after coaster stock, not after the announcement.

If the name does turn out to be "White Lightning" it would be strange to have it not launched... I'd be dissapointed, honestly. Obviously, I'd still love a traditional hyper though.

That is a common misconception. B&M will design over 300 feet, it's the price for them that the "Parks" don't like.

The reason we see so many Giant Intiman's is the fact that their quotes come in the lowest.

I figured that was why. I was being a little sarcastic.

Also, there is the following quote: "The Incredible Hulk is the only launched roller coaster produced by Bolliger & Mabillard. As a company, it is opposed to launched coasters because of perceived reliability problems."

But, that is from Wiki, so it may not be true...

Folks you will get whatever in the mail when it comes. I am sure when someone gets it they will post here for there is no need to really ask yet since Coasterstock was a mere 10 days ago. All good things come to those who wait.

I actually added that to the Wiki. But no, I didn't.

B&M didn't actually produce the launch on Hulk. They refused to do the launch, so that part was done by a separate company. I wouldn't be surprised though if the reliability of Hulk (incredibly high from what I can tell) motivated B&M to develop their own launch system.

I still think there is a chance that there is a launch on this coaster. I won't be remotely surprised if there is not, but there are enough reasons for me to believe that could be what makes this ride unique.

Jonathan,
I said months ago that we were getting a launched Mega coaster. You all laughed at me. (Yes I'm a newbe, however, I'm also over 40 years old). Can someone please find the quote if it does come true? I would love a bit of credit.
The ride is going to be themed to auto racing (not Nascar), with a launched start and a Mega coaster design. I also wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't red.......
BTW......We are all going to be very happy!
