General Carowinds discussion

^^^ No, not necessarily. Carowinds and Kings Dominion are in different markets. Kings Dominion isn't far from an Intamin hyper in MD and a B&M hyper in VA, so KD is one-upping them with a giga as an incentive to visit KD rather than the other parks.

I expect the Carowinds B&M to be a standard hyper and that's not a bad thing at all.

Coasterbruh, I got an invite, but I haven't heard of anyone else being one of the five either. I was originally not able to go due to moving back to school but plans have changed slightly for this week, so I guess I'll go.

My first time posting here as I have just discovered this site and love it. I grew up going to carowinds at least once every summer and have always loved the park. I have to say though that none of us could really say what Carowinds is gonna be doing with this new coaster. I mean, we can stand around and speculate all day, but I can honestly say that I dont think Carowinds would let us down. CF knows that the park hasn't had anything special added in a long time, so I think whatever they are gonna be doing with the new coaster will not be a let down. I live in Alaska now, and I still always plan a trip to Carowinds in my trip home every year. I'm excited to see what they deliver.

But, they did not put then up till after the announcement so I think we will see stuff going up after or on our announcement date because the same thing happened with the cobra after the announcement date we seen more progress.

Huh? :| KD's supports started going up two days before the announcement date.

4 Supports went up on August 19th the day before the announcement. The day of the announcement August 20th 2 more supports went up.

OK, so I haven't really been on the boards for the past few days, and just kinda skimmed this thread, so please don't shoot me if this has already been brought up.

Has anyone that was at CoasterStock received an invite for the announcement on Wednesday? Just wondering if they have gone out or not, cause I have to tell work if I'll be there on Wed or not.

And who cares what the name/theme is? I mean, it will definitely be cool to have a NASCAR themed coaster (since I'm a NASCAR junkie and all), but will people seriously *NOT* ride it simply because they don't like NASCAR?

Someone needs to go hook up a power plant to Dale Sr's grave, because they could power the coasters with all the spinning around in it he's doing. I'll bet if he had any idea that Theresa would be running his company into the ground like she has been, he would *NOT* have left her in charge of it. So sad.

^ I don't think anyone will refuse to ride because they don't care for NASCAR. I know I'd rather not see it. Will I ride it? Absolutely. Will I enjoy it? You bet. Will I die a little everytime I see a shop hocking the latest truckload of trés chíc NASCAR crap in my home park? Well, yeah, probably.

ok now i have to ask. why does everyone think that we are getting a hyper by B&M? i have read that B&M were supposed to have a contract for 2 hypers and now i look and see the KD's coaster is a GIGA made by Intamin. wasnt all the talk that both parks were getting B&M hypers?

for all those who wish it wasn't Nascar themed, have you ever been to a race? And whether you want to admit it or not, Nascar is a huge sport. The recognition that carowinds is going to receive will be more than you can imagine. Carowinds will be put on the map so to speak. Carowinds needed an attention getter. Man I can see DEI racing a Carowinds car in a few races.

If I am reading this right, it looks like to me you are questioning whether or not the coaster will be a B&M coaster? As for that, there is no doubt at all, it is a B&M as the track on site is very clearly B&M track. There are no doubts there. Other clues pointed to B&M before the track arrived such as the track on site at Claremont Steel in Ohio and the numbering on the footers compared to past B&M coasters. As for it being a hyper, or a 200+ footer, well to me, the construction path and the out and back layout points to that. The footers that are already poured within the park match up very well with the footers that make up the transfer station, brake run and loading station of other B&M hypers from other parks as has been well illustrated here a few times a few pages back. I do suppose it is 'possible' we could be getting a Goliath (La Rronde) style B&M mega coaster of less than 200 feet but to me, the construction and layout point to a hyper. Not to mention the angle of the two pieces of drop track already on site appears to be too steep to be less than a 200 footer. I am guessing, as most of us are I imagine, something in the 200'-250' range. As for this possibly being a 300'+ or more, well, that has been brought up before that B&M does not do coasters that tall for several reasons. Not to say that it will never happen but I am heading into territory that was covered a few pages back. That is my 3 cents worth on the matter.

I'm not one to complain, fact I hardly ever do... BTW Jammin, Jonathan if you feel you need to put this somewhere else, please do..

Who are the "lucky 5" who get to go to this event Wed?!?!?!?! Havent got an e-mail, no list to be found.... All this "hype" for this AWESOME new ride we are getting and NO ONE but a select few will get attend the "press conference". Probably one of the biggest announcements that Carowinds will ever make and the park is closed for the day....

Am I missing something here??????? 8)

*end of rant*

This may have been covered before, if so, I'm sorry..

i do know that when i was at the park there were 17 pcs of track some supports and what looked to be walkway or something and that is clearly seen in some photos. that was on the 14th.
whatever the ride is i hope it is smooth like afterburn and not and rough as night hawk.
i moved out here from california and remember when night hawk was called stealth and was in great america for a year then vanished for there water park. was excited to see it out here when i went to carowinds for the first time.
another great ride that used to be at great america was called the edge. it was relocated to cedar point when drop zone was put in place. cedar point now calls it demons drop or something like that.
the one thing that i do have to say is i would have loved to go to carowinds when thunder road ran the one train backwards. that would have been a rush.
