General Carowinds discussion

woo hoo!!!!!! very, very pleased indeed! now I have a mundane construction question:
It's not clear to me from existing photos how the parking lot asphalt is being handled. Some of the future rendering illustrations (or whatever they are called) make it look like Mr. the Intimidator is going to pass merrily through wooded glens and pastoral fields. I'm pretty sure that isn't going to be the reality...or is it? I know there was discussion about whether the parking lot was going to be torn up totally, or planted over, or whatever--so where is that at? And exactly how does one landscape over asphalt anyhow? It almost looks like they'll have a harder job getting the landscaping done than they will building the coaster. :?

Its gonna be grassed one way or another I'm sure. They aren't spending this much money to have it sitting on asphalt. What I'm wondering is what color Vortex will be next year bc for sure it won't be red?

Clint was discussing this at the end of the webcast and said that in talking to some of the Carowinds people, they were considering leaving the parking lot and theming it to a racetrack instead of grass.

I will have to say that I am rather thrilled at what Carowinds, Cedar Fair and B&M has conjured up for us for 2010. 3 drops taller than anything else on the park. A great second drop plus I love the helix at the end. Not to mention much more already brought up in previous posts. Ready to renew my pass for next year :P Duane is in China now so he will update 'our' coaster on RCDB when he returns. He is currently in Qingdao, which is on the Eastern coast. He is heading to Shanghai, Chengdu and Guangzhou next. Oh yeah, Jonathan, you did a fantastic job on the Landmark Moment post on the front page. Very well said and informative.

Why not? Its overdue for one right now, surely when they go to paint it next time it won't be Red considering its not far from Intimidator. Maybe they won't it doesn't matter but to me it wouldn't make sense to have 2 red B&M's that close to each other.

Vortex has last painted in 2004, if any coaster needs a paintjob it is Afterburn...Cyclone got painted in the early 2000s as did Goldrusher. Afterburn is the only steel coaster I can think of that hasn't been painted(has been touched-up) since 1999(or when it was installed in AB's case). By the way, Vortex went 12 years without a paintjob before 2004.
