General Carowinds discussion

I suspect the author of that article is coming to their own conclusions. It seems like the park used images of Gatekeeper as an example just because Gatekeeper is the chain's most recent major coaster. I don't know that it necessarily means the coaster will be a wing rider. This is definitely an interesting twist, though. How cool would it be if the coaster actually wrapped around the perimeter of the Paladium?

That would be great... You could be right the author could just be jumping to a conclustion, maybe B&M is doing a sky rush style seating or something, who knows.... hahha. I hope it is a wing coaster though or something of the like, at least go upside down....

I wasn't saying the article or the site was fake. It's just kind of ironic that it was published about 5 hours after I was communicating with one of my contacts about the disappointment that so much information came out so early about this when most of us like some intelligent discussion and anticipation of what is coming. You would think they would have found this information the day before with the other info about the new coaster being '70 feet higher than Intimidator.' Since this latest information is strange in a few ways it made me wonder if CF released some information that isn't completely accurate to keep us guessing.

It all just made me wonder. It could be 100% accurate for all I know, I certainly don't have much inside scoop.

I would love to see a wing coaster, but only 65 MPH for a 300+ ft coaster?

Somethings fishy...

A wing coaster that size would definitely be awesome...
An invert that size would be awesome also, but then what's the point of having Afterburn?
A normal giga coaster seems the most likely to me.

Yea I know you weren't. I am just kind of wondering why the other news didnt release this information as well, you know they always report anything and everything they can and this would be a big thing to announce.... It could be cedar fair pulling our legs, you never know.

I hope B&M would do an improvement on the seating, that would be great! But I still think a 300ft tall coaster that goes upside down would be awesome... no matter where i am sitting

I love all the speculation i am still going around in circles about what it could ACTUALLY be and what it will be... Maybe more information or details will come out soon, as in more of what they said in the article but a little more precise to maybe make more sense because some of it dont. I am still scratching my head 300ft tall 65mph  The folks on TPR got a kick out of this...

I agree 100% on this observation Johnathan. The company had to give the council something so they gave them Gatekeeper in the presentation. They may have revealed the height to win over support from the board. The location may not be firm either. Likely they penciled something in on the NC side for presentation purposes. Ripping out the Palladium and the excavation work seems kind of expensive. Isn't that thing a man made bowl dug into the ground?

Also the author likely jumped to the conclusion about suspended feet by looking at Gatekeepers pictures in the presentation. Honestly a novice would naturally think Carowinds is getting the same coaster, not knowing anything about the Wonderland coaster. Also consider this, the presentation works well in preserving some secrecy about the project. Journalist and the general pubic are going to go running half cocked thinking it is a Gatekeeper clone. But us smart *** enthusiast know better. 300 ft does not equal wing coaster. As mentioned a while back, this style coaster cannot currently handle the forces.

The news was not released, and won't be until it is announced. Construction may start in the spring but don't look for an announcement until next fall. This is basically detective work by a journalist trying to get a scoop, which he did. Many news outlet will not report some thing unless it is officially released by the party(s) involved.

I'd much rather they incorporate Paladium into the park instead of tearing it down. With just a little work they could easily use it to add another show to the park.

It would also surprise me to see them remove the Sky Coaster. It does seem to make sense that they could move it to a location with more foot traffic and potentially boost sales of it. Right now it's kind of just tucked away while other parks have better visibility to theirs. SFOG and Kennywood both come to mind.

Honestly they can take the Sky coaster out as far as I'm concerned, 1) It's too expensive, 2) I'm afraid to get on it.

The sky coaster is one of the best experiences i have ever had. $12 is not expensive.... I wish they would let us do it free again at C3 tomorrow, they let us do it free at coasterstock, loved it. I think I have did it 4 times now... i think its one of the best rides in the park!

betterthanyou wrote:I really do not think the palladium will be taken out, it brings in way to many people for it to be taken out! On days that it is used are some of the busiest days of the summer! A normal saturday for carowinds is about 18,000 guests but during one of the concerts or music festivals they had there (I do not remember what it was) attendance was at about 48,000 in the park. Now its not like that every time it gets used but it brings a hell of a lot of people in and I just cant see them taking it out for any reason.

This was a point I made on FB earlier. There is no logic to the Paldium going anywhere as part of this. The expense to remove or relocate that area alone would be significant and as you pointed out, it brings far too many park goers with it's special events.
