General Carowinds discussion

There are plenty of ways to go around the Palladium. Just two examples I drew:

That service road is just begging to have a coaster go down it.

I like the yellow one.

I was thinking about interesting or unique color-schemes and possible themeing.

If it were me, I'd call it something along the lines of "Lightning Bolt", or something simliar (and less cheesy :p). Just to bring back the old Thunder/Lightning theme that they boasted with White Lighting, without down right calling it White Lightnin'.

So, hypothetically, if it were themed to lightning, I'd like to see the colors White and Gold used, they'd complement each other very well and it'd be an interesting idea. And pretty unqiue (I think).

Of course it does. You would not be a true Carowinds fan unless you have at least one of your coaster plans going under the bridge. It is a right of passage. But do remember the heavy equipment has to have easy access to the construction site. Running the coaster straight out seems pretty easy for the giant crane needed to have access from the outside of the park. When you start snaking around in the park, that opens another can of worms.

I know going all the way to I-77 is a long stretch, and I personally doubt it would go out that far. My point however was that Carowinds has a lot of room to play with for a layout and not restricted like Canada's Wonderland was with Leviathan. I would like to see it making a "flyby" of the entrance similar to Leviathan.

I agree with you there Mr. LemondsHead. Carowinds Intimidator is an overall better ride than I-305. One big drop and that's it. Our Intimidator has a great series of hills and airtime. If we get an Intamin Giga, then I hope it is more like Millenium Force. Or possibly a taller Skyrush. But based upon previous patterns, I am thinking it will probably be a B&M Giga more similar to Leviathan.

I-305 is far more than a great drop. Personally, I prefer three elements (first turn, turn out of the airtime hill, and ridiculous over bank before the brake run) over the first drop. I want an Intimin anything over another B&M. They may take more matience work, but its worth it. An Intimin provides a more out of control feeling than the smooth and relatively unvaried B&M experience.

Oh no what I meant was maybe it could go under the bridge in one direction, do a turn around somewhere, and leap back over the bridge afterwords. I apologize for the misspelling on that last one, I normally recheck everything but must of overlooked it.

I really like both coasters a lot. Both do what they were designed to do well. I-305 is sheer power, speed and you do get the out of control feeling. But over all Intimidator does a lot of things very well. B&M gets a bad rap from enthusiast because of the conservative design of the rides. But the coasters are tried and true and operate like a fine tuned machine. Personally I feel a B&M is the better investment for a park. The general public likes them, and they last a very long time with few problems, giving a better return on the investment.

I think the coaster will start over in thrill zone, I guess where the Xtreme Skyflyer is and will turn around right at the front gate/ new plaza, whether it flys over it some or not I think this will be the turnaround, or maybe it will go over the entrance road and into the field on the other side of the drop off / pick up area and turn around there... I am leaning more towards it being incorporated somehow with the entrance just because that does seem to be the thing with cedar fair now....

That indeed seems like the most logical route. My personal reference would be to have the lift hill as close to I-77 as possible. That would be a spectacular sight.

You are likely right. But though we have a lot of information to draw certain conclusions, we really have nothing to suggest that B&M will in fact be the manufacturer. People point to Levithian, and talk about the problems with I-305. But at the end of the day, we really have no clue what so ever. I take that relationship with Intamin mumbo jumbo with a grain of salt.
