General Carowinds discussion

It is crazy how early it was as well when that name was thought out. I couldn't remember exactly when they started tearing down the log flume, I just remember taking a ton of pics the following year of the construction site :D I will definitely be able to get some pictures when construction is going on, that is still a long ways away though, but I am hoping to land a job up near the park and if I do, I can go out there several times a month to get pictures. I am pretty sure they will move a camera to track the construction as well, so there's always that... Not really sure if you would be able to get pictures in the off season due to the location of the new coaster, so we will just have to wait and see.

As far as a re-theme of thrill zone, I would like to see it as well as the area is just not "thrilling" at all... Not sure if they would re-vamp the area with pavers or not or just keep the paths to look like roads? I am still thinking a wing coaster as well, even though the speed and all doesn't really match up, definitely think it will be unique and a "new" something from B&M if its not the wing style.. Maybe the world record breaking part is the most inversions or something, I am hoping for an upside down coaster one way or another... but I will be happy with whatever. As far as a name and theme for the coaster, I could see White Lighnin coming back, since that was a big speculation when Intimidator was coming, maybe the park decided to go with that name. Maybe they would re-theme the whole area as some kind of western theme or something  I am hoping for some unique colors on the coaster, something other than red or blue... we need a giant green coaster, or if its "white Lightnin" a white coaster haha.

My top 3 coaster names at the park are: 1) Thunder Road, 2) Hurler 3) Intimidator

I agree, it fits so well. Thunder, Lighning. Thunder Road, the film, White Lighning the film, both themed to Moonshine and racing/action.

White Lightnin' is a cool name to begin with, but bringing it back to the park with that whole "...This Spring, Lighning Strikes Twice!" Tagline would be FANTASTIC!! And a Gold/Yellow and White or an Electric Blue and White color-scheme would look geat, imo.

Yeah, keeping the coaster names linked to racing/cars would be an excellent idea. We definitely don't need a sea monster, or bird in the park. This would also move the park closer to having a unified theme. Hopefully the suits at the park read this stuff site and will take that under consideration for future attractions names.

It has already been "revealed" that the coaster is going to be over 300 feet tall. How can it be a wing coaster?

Exactly. (As I've already stated) Thunder Road is themed to the film of the same name about Bootleggers racing the cops, who were trying to bust them for travelling with Moonshine they planned to sell. Intimidator is themed to Nascar and "the intimidator" himself. The old WL was, titled after the hit Burt Reynolds movie that had just been released.

Anyway, I've said it a few times, so I'll say it again, I would also enjoy seeing it called "White Lighntin'". And the Thrill Zone area get a facelift, and actually be Thrilling. Expand into the area behind Drop Tower, move the skyflyer there and add some flats. Like a Huss Giant Frisbee, Top Spin, etc. But a wild west theme wouldn't fit AT ALL :D haha.

I'd be be extremely unlikely, but I guess possible. I imagine it'd physically stress the rider though.

So whats your point? It was also "revealed" that it was JUST LIKE gatekeeper at CP? So anything is POSSIBLE? I am not saying I am sure its a wing coaster because of the "release" in that news article, but just because its 300ft tall, doesn't mean it cant be? I am not a physics major and I cant make a wing rider in No LImits to see how strong the forces might be, but just because its 300ft tall doesnt mean the drop is 300ft as well.... While it is probaly about 75% unlikely to be a wing rider, and maybe some different style seating or something on the coaster that is similar to a wing coaster, I am NOT ruling it out at all. I mean X2 at six flags is 4D and does a 215ft 90 degree drop.... whose to say that our coaster wont be 315ft tall with like a 250ft drop or something? I wouldnt rule it out yet, but if you want to be my guest

I've already said this, but I'll say it again:
Back in about July, on a Kings Island forum, when the speculation was still going, the possibility of a wing coaster was thrown out there many times, and in an interview with mr Ouimet, he clearly stated that they had no other wing coasters planned for any of the parks. This is the main reason why I believe it will not be a wing coaster, the other being the facts that we know and that they can't yet handle that type of force yet.

Agreed that height doesnt rule out any type of coaster at all really, its just understandable that its hard to believe a wing rider would be that tall...

When was this interview that Ouimet did? Just because it wasn't in the "plans" when he did this interview, doesn't mean things cant change? Maybe it wasn't in the plans because they were going to work with the city on the incentives etc? Who knows? I just looked at some things again and the total cost of Gatekeeper and the new entrance at CP was $30 million, doesn't really mean anything, but just saying. All I know is until its announced, or leaked, I am still not closing the door on a wing rider, I know its a LONG shot, but oh well

Wasn't it last year for Gatekeeper that someone discovered the trademarked name and logo on the patent office website ? I'm sure that Carowinds has had this planned for awhile. With that being said I'm sure they have the name of the new coaster and logo trademarked already. Has anyone tried searching for new trade marks? Who knows I could be wrong but...

You can have a tall drop but what comes after that drop has limits. As much as some enthusiast might like it, you cannot send everybody through an inversion going 95 miles an hour.

It was sometime after Gatekeeper opened, so maybe May or something like that?
