This thread now makes me want to tear my eyes out. I wish that none of this information had been leaked, I swear I do. Because I can already tell some of you are going to be annoying for the next 3 years.
You can't base what Carowinds will or won't get on something Mr. Oimet said back in July. At that point, they were working on upcoming projects and additions. He's not going to say what they're considering. At that point, I'm sure they didn't have any plans set in stone for a 300' whatever this is.
As for forces, B&M can build a 300' whatever. A 300' drop on a wing coaster can be designed with whatever forces they wish. That statement makes no sense.
As far as name and logo, they may not even have come up with a name for it yet. We'll know sometime before the coaster is built, but not this early out. Right now it's looking like the coaster is coming in 2016. If it comes in 2015, we won't see any of that till this time next year.
And your expertise as an engineer and designer leads you to believe that the actual designers and engineers that work on the ride can't figure out how to design a ride around what the human body can handle? You do realize that it's not about how many Gs are being pulled, but the duration and immediacy, correct?
Ugh. So, the consensus is that this will in all likelyhood be a B&M Giga. And that's all well and good. Or, you know, it could be a launched coaster. Or a Wing Coaster. Or one of another dozen or so types of coasters. I think it's way too early to say what it won't be.
And as for those saying that there were tons of comments about Carowinds never getting a 300' coaster, I looked back and saw more people saying that a 300' coaster would bring in tons of people, while others were saying that a 300' coaster was neither necessary, nor is simply building one going to bring in a ton more people. And now that we know what all Carowinds is planning, that's never been truer.
They're not building a 300 footer to bring in a bunch of people. They're spending a ton of money on infrastructure, revamping food, adding to the waterpark. Those are thing things they're banking on to get more people to come in. That 300' coaster? That's what they're building to keep them coming back. Just like Wonderland. Just like CP.
Its obvious that Cedar Fair sees more potential in Carowinds now than they ever did under Kinzel or even Paramount. Heck, CF is reestablishing a satellite office in Charlotte. We can definitely have a CP of the south. Phase one is getting them where they need to be. I'm excited for what comes after the first 3 years.
I've already said this, but I'll say it again:
Back in about July, on a Kings Island forum, when the speculation was still going, the possibility of a wing coaster was thrown out there many times, and in an interview with mr Ouimet, he clearly stated that they had no other wing coasters planned for any of the parks. This is the main reason why I believe it will not be a wing coaster, the other being the facts that we know and that they can't yet handle that type of force yet.

You can have a tall drop but what comes after that drop has limits. As much as some enthusiast might like it, you cannot send everybody through an inversion going 95 miles an hour.
