General Carowinds discussion

Some of you must not remember the year 2000 when:

Goliath opened at Six Flags Magic Mountain on 2/11/2000 as the tallest, fastest full circuit coaster in the world then...

Millennium Force opened at Cedar Point on 5/13/2000 as the tallest, fastest full circuit coaster in the world then Cedar Fair 'got aped by'...

Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land which opened on 8/1/2000 as the tallest, fastest full circuit coaster in the world

And that all happened in 7 months.

Well, at the time, Cedar Point and Magic Mountain were in a coaster war. I'm not talking about with each other so much, but they both wanted to have the most, the biggest, the fastest. They were planning on topping themselves, and Cedar Point did that in 04 with Dragster.

Nagashima was trying to put themselves on the map with SD2K, and they did, but then the ride was closed for 3 years.

I don't think that, 10 years ago, so many parks could have supported such a huge investment. We went thru an economic crisis all around the world, and parks were able to turn smaller investments around to keep people coming. Now, though, regional parks and destination parks are doing very well, the chains are under new leadership that isn't just plopping down a coaster to have one, and it just seems the time is right.

I think Gigas will be the new hypers.

Because the park (really fla) lacks a true airtime/speed machine. It will bring the park a solid line of coasters. Will amost guranteed to be the tallest in fla for a very long time. Its a rare breed of coasters to have with less than 10 world wide....

Now im waiting on your reasoning as to why they would not since you doubt they would...please, more than a 3 word response next time...or did you just wanna conteract the claim that they may with no form of substance at all...just a "no" answer?

Somehow I dont think BGT is a direct competition of any cedar fair park...

Some folk have said there are contracts, but I really don't know.
Capler wrote:Logic tells me that Cedar Fair already has B&M on the hook for the next one.

Unless its not B&M providing it. It is not unusual for different employees of different parks to travel to other park chains to check out their new rides. Universal and disney does it all they time...even giving out special tours. usually when VIP people from another parks visits another park out of the blue its to get more research on a particular "something". What does canadas wonderland have that no other parks in have? You guess it...

Well, they just got Cheetah Hunt in, what was it, 2010?
Falcon's Fury in 2014

Whatever. I guess it's possible, but don't they already have quite a few world-class coasters?

Why would that preclude them from getting another then? Other than Gwazi all either Busch Gardens (and most of the Sea Worlds) has built since 1993 is world class rides. And if you're going to go big, it would make sense to go bigger than Sheikra.

Cheetah Hunt opened in 2011 by the way, and Falcons Fury is likely only to be a fraction of the cost of a new coaster. I could definitely see something big in '15 or '16.

I've always wanted a coaster that locks people in by their ankles, hangs them upside down, and runs only inches above shark-infested water. That, my fellow posters, is what Carowinds is getting in 2015. Trust me, Dick Kinzel told me himself when I saw him at Six Flags the other day.

If a coaster crosses state line does it require a construction crew from each state to work on it?
