General Carowinds discussion
#53020
When did carowinds have animals? I never got to see or ride the monorail, I rode one at disney but that is the only one I have ever been on. I think its kind of pointless to have a monorail at this point because where exactly would it take you do? I would rather see a sky ride come back than monorail, I enjoy the sky rides at CP and Busch Gardens, I like taking pictures and videos from those rides as well. I just dont see Carowinds as being big enough for a transport ride, but maybe someday. I wouldn't even mind a train that went around the park. Man this thread has definitely went to a new topic..

I had a dream about our new coaster. Remember this was only a dream, it's completely unrealistic. Imagine Carowinds with a huge lake next to it. The coaster was a intamin Giga Giga. The roller coaster went up the giant lift hill, across the lake, turned around in some island, I remember it going above a hanging bridge similar to the Golden Gate Bridge. Now back to reality. :P

LEAKED! Someone found out that the coaster is theme to be a space ship from B&M. There will be a countdown (kind of like Intimidator "start your engines") and the coaster will have a 302 ft lift hill/ launch. It shoots you into space. But don't worry, you'll have a space suit on. The coaster is themed to that new movie "Gravity". Once you enter space, you will be stuck floating around. But instead of going back down to earth, you will be stuck in space until you run out of O2. I'm ready to ride! BTW the coaster is called "Solar Suicide". Expect to see ALOT of emo kids on it. :D

Would've been kinda funny if you actually made sense. 302 feet isn't space.... And yes, the movie is themed to the movie. Lol.

Hmm, I stop dreaming about coasters 10 years ago. Dont matter what the layout is, name, manufactor, or colors...I cant be no better than Intimidator. However, I am going to guess we will have our fourth red coaster.

Up until you said "you will have a space suit on" it actually made good since. Kind of got my hopes up for a brief minute.

I don't dream about coasters, but I do sometimes day dream about them. I did have a wet dream when I first heard about this particular coaster. In some circles that is what you call a rollernut.

So here's another thought re: Intamin as manufacturer:

Apparently Great Adventure is getting a 6000' (or so) Intamin Giga coaster as their next coaster. I know that what SF does has no effect on what CF does, but it does make me wonder if Intamin is currently the cheaper option for building steel over 300'.

Just a thought. We could still be getting a whatever. I just found this news interesting, especially since what we've heard was that Carowinds is getting a 300' 'wing' coaster.

I'm just wondering how much cheaper is Intamin when you factor in everything: the down time, the replaced parts, the re tracking. Also who takes on the added cost? I wonder if parks can actually put a price tag on the lost revenue when a popular ride is down? I'm sure there will be some who will cancel a trip based on this. Then there is the reputation factor. I'm sure some expert has come up with a model and these things fact in when selecting an attraction. The cost of a B&M may be more upfront but long term....?

That all depends, though. MF has been operating with no issues for over a decade. I305 did have a section re-designed, but when you look at the overall picture, I305 was designed to be in a very limited space. I blame CF more for the mistakes there than I do Intamin. They had plenty of room to stretch that coaster out, but didn't.

When you look at the bigger picture, though, Skyrush hasn't suffered any major downtime, The other Intamin Hyper coasters are usually up and running with no issues, and again, MF has been running for 13 years without any major issues.

Here's some info:
Millennium Force was built in 2000 at a length of 6595' and at 2012's price would cost around $33mill ($5003 per foot)
I305 was built in 2010 at a length of 5100' for $25mill ($4902 per foot)
Leviathan was built in 2012 at a length of 5486' for $28mill ($5103 per foot)

So the cost per foot isn't much different per ride. But, if Gadv is indeed getting a giga with an 85* drop at 6000', it could be about cost, or Intamin willing to push an envelope that B&M wouldn't push.

So it could be a beemer, it could be an intamin. We still don't know for sure, but even with the fact that some recent Intamin machines have had some issues, I don't think that they could be ruled out as manufacturer. If what was said about this coaster being a 'wing' coaster and a giga is true, I'd lean more towards Intamin. But since we have no idea, it's hard to tell.
