General Carowinds discussion

Screamscape wrote:2015/2016 - New Coaster - (1/7/14) According to a report posted at CoastersAndMore.de in German, the new B&M coaster on the way to Carowinds should stand over 90 meters (over 295 feet) in height and be at least 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) in length, as it crosses over from North to South Carolina and and back again during the run. And if I had to guess, I think there is a good chance it may fly over the park’s entrance plaza.
I’m hoping they got the stats a little wrong, as not only is the public expecting that it be at least 300 feet in height
minimum, it should be LONGER than Intimidator, which is listed as 5,316 feet, and not shorter. Stay tuned!

Found this out this morning. I'm not sure about these numbers though. The Charlotte transcript meeting thing said the coaster would be over 300 feet tall. If the length above is true, I'm hoping for a tight and compact coaster like Intimidator 305 whether it be made by Intamin or B&M. Both companies would be great for a twister coaster. B&M's Raging Bull is a popular ride so if the decision was to go with B&M, it could be a 300 ft. tall Raging Bull. If the park decided they wanted an Intamin, a compact twisting coaster would be great, especially knowing how forceful the tighter Intamin Coasters are (Intimidator 305, Skyrush).

[EDIT] I think this confirmed a B&M, so my statements about this being an Intamin could be wrong.

I saw that as well, and it just looks like speculation based on what we already heard months ago. it does however confirm b&M as the manufacturer. and cedar fair said the coaster would be on the NC side but this report says it will be on both sides. so judging where they cleared out the skyflyer to make room for this, its definitely going "past" the entrance

here is the translated text from the german site

Carowinds, United States: For 2015 B & M is to provide a larger roller coaster after Carowinds. The gigantic roller coaster is a targeted improvement of more than 90 meters over a length of over 1500 meters, the state line of North and South Carolina repeatedly cross and thus her little brother Intimidator, a B & M Hyper Coaster in the same park, make easily in the shade.

It would be extremely disappointing if it wasn't as tall as the media has reported. That being said, I'm not 100% sure it won't be at least 300-315 feet tall, and neither is anyone else.

To me though, this sounds like its talking about a really tall wing coaster. I believe there was a reference along the line of it being the "new model" by B&M?

Only time will tell what were getting exactly. With the recent announcements of multiple 300/400+ feet coasters in the South, I hope this is not true. If Carowinds is going to stand out, it needs something noticable and noteworthy to coaster enthusiasts.

Ive been on there from time to time. Its a credible site. I would not think they would fabricate any information. Most of the info we already knew but the little details they threw in I wouldnt think they pulled out of thin air. Its a german website, they have way bigger parks to talk about over there then carowinds so more than likely came from someone with a connection at B&Ms swiss operations.

Interesting. I don't see the park putting in a taller, shorter hyper. It would be too much like Intimidator and would add very little in terms of marketing. Also they mentioned specific height specs at the Charlotte meeting. Officials granted the incentives based on it being so many feet taller than Intimidator. Then there is the crossing into SC issue. If that were going to happen it seems they would have approached SC officials for financial consideration. In the meeting transcript, they specifically said NC side.
Then you have the three almost carbon copy hypers CF bought from B&M. All three heights were in the same range, which suggest that this new coaster will line up with Leviathan. Of course, as mentioned this could be something totally different, but it's doubtful.
I also watched the Kings Island Banschee construction interview recently and the CF person said something very telling. He said when they bought the park, basically they knew the order, and type of rides that would be installed, and a invert was slated for this year. Now the construction cycle has started over and first there was Wonderland, next Kings Island, with Carowinds and Kings Dominion up next. If my memory serves me well, the two Intimidators were not supposed to open in the same year, one version was delayed. With that said, I fully expect to see Dominion get an Invert in 2016, because it lacks in that department like KI did.

Which one? I'm very curious to know.

I can't remember. I think that info was in one of the earnings calls. One was out of schedule for some reason. They did not want to make the expenditure the same year but had to.

When do you guys suppose we will see actual groundbreaking and dirt moving? In the spring, or sometime after the park opens? I remember intimidator started with the deconstruction of the log flume in the spring before the park opened. This project should not be as hard to prep the land as the station/lift hill area was for intimidator.
When do y'all suppose it will start? Maybe after skycoaster is completed? I probably cannot afford to return to the park this year but I will def return in 2015 to ride this new monster. In the meantime, I can't wait to stay updated with ground moving, construction, etc.

You should try to come to the park late in the season and buy a season pass for 2015, in the past they would let you in for free. Construction should be well underway within 6 months. It is hard to believe we are 4 months into this waiting game.

It would be nice to see this happen as soon as possible. If construction starts early, maybe the park can announce it earlier (Kings Island started construction on Banshee before the park opened and it was announced on August 8th, 2013. Intimidator construction started a few months in after the log flume was dismantled and was announced August 26th, 2009).

Only time will tell what's going on and what we're really getting. But this now has mind going in all different directions.

I was really looking forward to a Giga. Grant, Don't get me wrong...this doesn't mean we aren't getting one. I mean they said over 90 meters..which is 295'. So if it's over 90 meter then there is a good chance it being over 300'

Somebody should go down to the plant and see if there are any tracks laying outside. I would think they would've started working on them at this point. Maybe.

I'm wondering if they are even done shipping all of the Banshee pieces? I know that coaster is about 50% assembled but I have no idea if all the track pieces are on site. Also considering everyone is assuming Carowinds is getting the next B&M, I'm not sure if anyone up there is even motivated to go snooping around the plant and engage in a game of speculation as to who, and what is laying out behind the building. in the past folk did it in order to solve a mystery.
