General Carowinds discussion

CF's hand has been tipped several times on this project but it was out of their control because the world is too digitally connected. First there was the city council meeting, if you ask for public money, you can't keep everything secret. Then there were the site plans for the area surrounding the entry plaza, again very public information. They probably should have blotted out the coaster info if that was even possible. Then there was the leak from B&M in Germany, again that was out of CF's hands. Honestly on the name thing, we have no idea. In that case we can only hope.

But here is something that kind of supports the 325 number. I have only mentioned this to one person before and that was to Wormy in an email almost a year ago with the council information leak. The first year Intimidator opened, I was in line with a guy and we started a conversation. He was very knowledgeable about the industry, coasters and Cedar Fair. As we were talking about how great the ride is, he warned me that Intimidator was only the beginning. He told me CF was making Carowinds it's east coast destination park and that they had plans to build the tallest coaster in the world here. Of course I immediately dismissed him and thought he was crazy and was making up stuff just to have a conversation. What he said went against all logic in my mind. We had just gotten Intimidator, which I considered to be the best Carowinds would ever get in my lifetime. Also when you factor in 305 was done at the same time, I figure CF still considered Dominion worthy of the taller coaster. Then there was the MF factor which appeared CF was not willing to challenge. Later, Leviathan did not help matters when it was kept under MF's height.

I did not think any more about my conversation with this guy until last year's city council meeting leak. Even then I was like, 'nah the guy I talked to was probably a crack head, it's not possible.' Not until that 325 number came out last did I do a double take and said 'No, it cant be, a guy told me the park's future plans over 4 years'. What he told me was so crazy at the time I never thought to repeat it in a forum. I was not going to mention this conversation until the park released the actual height, and only if it broke a world record. But since I have now gone public, it will be very interesting for me to see if the strange guy in the Intimidator line was correct. And if so, was he just a lucky speculator or did he actually have some inside information?

It will indeed be interesting to see if that guy's prediction comes to pass. But after 15 years, it should be about time for Cedar Fair to top Millenium Force. Hopefully 325 will be the correct height, regardless if it ends up in the name. But could be that Fury 325 is one of their planned leaks to tease, and not the actual name. But we shall soon see.

Some things to consider...

What is the closest haunt to the proposed site besides Silver Scream Sinema? Fury.

3/25 could possibly be 3/25 (March 25) but that is a Wedneday next year, so unless they are really planning ahead for a Wednesday media day for the ride, I would say 325 probably would be the height and Fury is a red herring.

LyonsRonnie1 wrote:Everybody's going to have their own opinion one way or the other, but since the general public is ignorant to the heights of the rides, putting a number in a HUGE one like that may not clue them in that it's the tallest in the world, but will at least show them that it's 325 feet high. I can definitely see the benefit in it.

"Soaring a world record 325 feet, Fury 325..."

"The newest ride at Carowinds, a world record 325 feet of Fury: Fury 325!"

Another thing, they probably already have market research for what the Intimidator 305 name did at the other park. So they likely already know if it's a good idea or if there's any benefits to putting the number in the name, and have apparently decided for whatever reason that there is a benefit worth repeating.

And as we've seen with the new Goliath, the media will declare it the tallest coaster in the world.

If i remember correctly the "Centurion" trademark has been suspended...

Looks like your right. The US Trademark Office are the ones who suspended it.

This would lead me to believe Fury 325 is the name...

My blackberry couldn't load the letter and the PDF wouldn't download. :(

However, to clarify, I don't think Centurion will be the name. I'm hopefully Fury325 won't be either though. But I do prefer the former of the two.

Either way, I'm stoked that this massive coaster thing is coming to Carowinds! I'm still in a disbelief stage almost. I'm definitely excited but I know I'll be damn-near floored when the official announcement comes in. :D

I really wonder how many years the wait is for placing an order and B&M delivering the ride? 5 years seems reasonable to me, considering how small the company is. With that said, maybe the guy knew what had already been planned 4 years ago. Some things can probably be ordered and delivered in a year or two, but a B&M coaster is likely not one of them.

All of this brings us back to the B&M plant in Ohio. I wish someone could do flyover and see what is out of view.

Was the Banshee name leaked or trademarked before the official announcement? I know they teased with the Bat name. And was the Intimidator name leaked before the official announcement back then? Seems like they teased with White Lightnin. Which would still be great to see that name returned, although it might be a better fit for a launch coaster.
