General Carowinds discussion

Yeah, movie titles and Roller Coaster names are so vastly different when it comes to trademarking, etc. And the word "Fury" is so generic that it probably wouldn't matter anyway.

Don't forget there's a movie called "Afterburn" that's plot involves F-16s. Yet the similarly themed ride is allowed to co-exist.

White Lightning would be a PERFECT NAME for a Carowinds huge white giga coaster! I can't believe they wouldn't choose this name given the history!

I remember White Lightning when I was young and I LOVED that ride. I remember once in the early or mid 80s (I was very young), we rode it like 10 times in a row.

Perfect name!

As much as I loved riding White Lightnin' when I was young and as much as I want the name brought back I don't think it would be fitting for a giga coaster. It is much more suited to a launched coaster. The best part of White Lightnin' was hearing them say "Put your head against the head rest, lightning strikes....................... now!" and then waiting for the launch. The Cedar Fair higher ups have hinted that they would like to see Carowinds have a launched coaster so maybe we will see this name return for it.

But consider there is white B&M track at the plant, could they possibly be doing White Lightning 2.0 now?

Anyone think that the white track at the B&M plant has anything to do with Mosley Erecting Company being at Freestyle Music Park? http://www.screamscape.com/html/freesty ... c_park.htm

Not sure exactly how much track is at Clermont, but they may need new sections if they have to change its layout a bit for the new location.

I'm not sure you understand how relocated steel coasters work... Nothing is remade and if the land at the new location isn't the same as the old location, the footers are poured higher (or lower) to accomodate the change in elevation. They don't (that I've ever heard of at least) refab track for a relocated steel coaster.

I understand perfectly how it works. I could see supports being modified if needed for a "standard" relocation, but I wouldn't see why other portions couldn't be modified if the customer requested it. I'm not saying that's what is happening, I'm just saying that it could possibly happen.

I was out at the park today to pick up a friend (unfortunately never went inside the park) but while going to the pick up area I noticed a silk fence just around the left side of the street heading into the park. It seemed to be covering a pretty big area just in front of the toll plaza bridge. I was not able to get a good picture of the fence but this could for the parking rearrangement in 2015.

Hi there! Glad to be on Carowinds Connection. Like many of you my home park is Carowinds and I have followed it very closely my entire life. I've been a lurker here since the days of the Carolina Cobra construction, and I'm finally around to posting!

I'll start out with this....

Now up to four colors of B&M track floating around- white, yellow, orange, and teal

Thank you!

I think I like the teal or white myself. Either one would look great clashing with Intimidator on the skyline.
Also I'm part of the crew that really dislikes the Fury 325 name, then again I don't think Centurion sounds great either.
White Lightning coming back to strike twice would be awesome.

Honestly though as long as it turns out to be a great ride I doubt anyone would care the name or paint scheme. :D

You can't just adding to a ride that's already been engineered just because...

As for the trademark discussion, when you're trying to register a name, you have to say what it's being used for. If someone comes and tries to use the name on something that could be considered similar, that's when you have problems. That's why you see them requesting a mane and using it on rides AND merch. If DEI has the Intimidator registered for use on attractions, it's likely Carowinds wouldn't be able to use it for an attraction regardless of theme.

That white track looks like it could be steep. It's also much like the lift and drop on leviathan.
