General Carowinds discussion

Has anyone been to Carowinds recently? And if so, any updates on the construction near Hurler? A few pages ago, someone mentioned seeing a truck hauling re barb wire to the site. I am wondering if construction on the footers has started.

There are other quite informative threads on here you know.

Yeah, but this one sparked my interest. Since I LOVE roller coasters. Considering this new one of Giga heights. Anyway, I spent the last few hours reading this entire thread, just to do it. So I would be caught up.

I think Cedar Point and Six Flags Magic Mountain are generally considered the 2 major coaster parks. And Cedar Point is called "America's Roller Coast." But the new Carowinds coaster should hopefully be impressive.

The new coaster will make for an impressive and beautiful skyline that can be seen for miles (5-10 miles in any direction). Now THAT will be a sight to see. I can't wait to ride it. And just think... This is only phase one of the plans!

Oops, sorry. And I saw those earlier! Why did I even ask that question? I'm an idiot. Anywho, I drew this up just now. This is the Carowinds skyline if the giga were to be themed as White Lightning. Tell me what you think. I think that Carowinds would look great with a large white coaster in the background!

You can see the top of Intimidator from the Macy's and Belk parking lot at Carolina Place Mall. And it stands out in the skyline driving down I-77 south. So I am sure the 300ft giga will definitely be an impressive visual statement at the front of the park. Or 325ft as it is rumored to be.

I thought the White Lightning name is now being used by a wooden coaster down in Orlando somewhere. So therefore unlikely it will be used by Carowinds again anytime soon.

I would think that Carowinds still holds the rights to use that name, but I really don't know what all carried over from all the previous park owners. But you do bring up a good point tylerSC. Would we want the same name as a coaster in Orlando? Or maybe Carowinds could add to the name, like "White Lightnin's Revenge" (yeh I know...) but you get the idea. Then again, "White Lighting" & "White Lightnin'" are spelled different....lol.

Trademarks have a 10 year renewal period and you can't renew it if you are not actively using it, so I doubt Carowinds has any exclusive rights to it anymore. Fun Spot is a pretty minor park so I'm not sure their White Lightning is that relevant if Carowinds wants to have one of their own.

Food Town had to change it's name to Food Lion back in the 70's. It did not become an issue until Food Lion became a nationwide chain. That is when the little store stepped in and said 'hold up partner, we had the name first.'
