You guys are overthinking the whole "8th wonder of the world" thing. It's a pretty common marketing tool. Lots of things have been labeled the 8th wonder of the world, such as the Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House, Panama Canal, and the Three Gorges Dam in China. The 8th Wonder of the World is just a common term used to describe big things that humans have built. Simple as that. It's just a marketing tool used to make something sound one of a kind. It has nothing to do with height, speed, or length. For example, if Charlotte were to build the world's tallest building, they could use the same 8th Wonder of the World slogan, and it would have the same meaning as it does at Carowinds.

I think It's definitely a clue, and not just the typical '8th wonder of the world' marketing.

Usually when they proclaim something the 8th wonder, they don't actually use old-timey maps, etc. because it dates whatever you're trying to promote, as ancient. They never said the Empire State building was anything but state of the art, even though they used the 8th wonder moniker... same with Andre the Giant, or whatever else they've proclaimed the 8th wonder.

So it could just be sloppy marketing, but I think they're going full blown with the old map and everything because the themeing of the ride is going to be old-world, ancient something or the other. I could be wrong though and it's more simple than that.

The hanging gardens of Babylon (Huge building simulating a mountainside)
The temple of Artemis (Huge temple similar to the Parthenon)

I think the themeing will be in line with that, something 'old world' sounding. Centurion wouldn't really fit that thought since it's just a general in the Roman army... but I think it'll be something suggesting the ancient world.

BTW Leviathan was an ancient, huge, Sea Creature. Leviathan 325, anyone????

The Theatrum Orbis Terrarum or "Theatre of the World") is considered to be the first true modern atlas. Written by Abraham Ortelius and originally printed on May 20, 1570, in Antwerp, it consisted of a collection of uniform map sheets and sustaining text bound to form a book for which copper printing plates were specifically engraved. The Ortelius atlas is sometimes referred to as the summary of sixteenth-century cartography. Many of his atlas' maps were based upon sources that no longer exist or are extremely rare.
