General Carowinds discussion

Hershey doesn't get the biggest rides, but they've come a long way in 20 years since I moved here. A solid collection. They're locally owned, so no chain mentality like six flags. It's been primarily a family park that's stepped up quite a bit. Busch used to be my favorite, but they're not looking so hot these days since they've been bought a couple times. Mat Ouimet at CF is doing a really nice job building up their parks, so you're seeing some of that now at Carowinds. I'm glad - it's about time!

yep - been to kings island many times - spent the day, then came back home same day. Just usually ride the big roller coasters / drop tower and that's it. I'm one of those unfortunate people to have most friends that are afraid of roller coasters of thrill rides! Anyway - It's like and hour to cincy and another 1/2 hour to the park from there. Not too bad. Cedar point is like 5 hours or so. I've been there twice -but grew up going to carowinds and sfog. I'm happy Carowinds is getting a giga although I'm sure KI will get one eventually. Incidentally, not meaning to veer off topic too much, but out of the five parks that have the drop tower like Carowinds has, Carowinds is the shortest. I wonder why? I think they should ditch that and get a power tower!

I completely agree. Carowinds should get a bigger tower and more thrilling flat rides. But a Giga is all the more exciting :)

Power Tower is probably the most boring drop ride I've ever been on. What a waste of space. The shorter older Intamins usually have the best drops. Heck, the best drop rides I've been on are probably the rinky dink portable ones that you see at places like Knoebels and Morey's Piers.

I think this thread already covers construction and all other updates regarding the new coaster. But I know we are all just anxious for more exciting information.
