General Carowinds discussion

I humble myself at a skill far greater than my own! That...was...amazing! If this is what carowinds is ready to present to the world then I'm estatic!

And famousamos...you had the same amount of time as rcoster had...the fact that you rushed yours and he took his time to make this awesome sauce of a coaster is no excuse on your behalf...so don't make any haha.

Cedar Fair outsources this job to a special company that uses VERY expensive software. http://3dvip.com/

Also now that we have a "visual estimates" thread, all the recreations, no limits designs and whatever else should go there. Leave this thread to be about everything else.

Edit: bonked heads on that one Jarsh.

I pray to the Coaster Gods (and the real one/ones too!) that we get what's represented in that video (but named Centurion!!!) with those tight turns and the ending OMFG this has the potential to be one of the greatest rides in the world! Blending Levitahan and I-305 together almost! That'd be freain' phenomenal!

Does anyone know if it is for sure the same style seating as the intimidator? I was really hoping for a wing coaster... If it is the same style as gatekeeper (going through obstacles and flying over the main gate) I would be thrilled.

Yes and no. The trains will not be like Intimidator (2 seats per row), but the ride will most likely have four-across seating. It's a bit similar to Intimidator, but with less rows. See Leviathan.

Darn... I think that carowinds needs something different... like a wing or a launch. Hopefully on Centurion they will focus on theming the ride as well as making the ride good. Instead of it just being a roller coaster, they should have a story to it ( like a ride at Disney or Universal).

This is different. It's 100 feet taller with different trains and a layout that emphasizes speed and turns over airtime.

Just because it's the same "type" of coaster by the same manufacturer doesn't mean it will be a carbon copy. The people that this ride is trying to attract (aka the 300,000 attendence bump they are hoping for) will just see it as a giant new coaster. There won't be any complaints of "wahhh this is exactly the same as Intimidator" because it won't be.

Canada's Wonderland did the same thing and no one compares Behemoth to Leviathan. You can't. They are drastically different rides that compliment each other well. Most importantly they are both FANTASTIC rides.

^^I don't think we'll ever see a coaster with a story to it like Universal or Disney. Cedar Fair (and Six Flags for that matter) have such a different business model than Disney or Universal. They would be setting themselves up for failure if they dumped hundreds of millions into a ride to provide the same level of theming.

We can keep hoping that they bring a much smaller scale of theming to this coaster, this area of the park, and other areas of the park in the future, though.

If people don't see hurler and thunder road as the same why would they in this scenario? Heck, some people feel they have to ride. Org sides of thunder road because they are considered different.

I love the speed and quick turns of this coaster. That makes it a completely different ride. Tunnel and water features too. We are so lucky to be getting a ride of this magnitude. Carowinds will be at the top of people's list for visits in 2015. Enthusiasts from all over will visit the park for the first time. Even more excited for the announcement!
