General Carowinds discussion

When I look at those Leviathan pics and how massive it looks, and then think to myself that Carowinds coaster is probably going to be bigger than that, it's sort of hard to process in my mind... I can't wait until the announcement so we know the stats....these next 2 weeks are going to DRAG so friggin slowly.

Sorry guys... Fury will revolve around the Charlotte Hornets. The beekeeper suit delivery to the Gaston Gazette pretty much nailed this coffin lid closed on the case. Just be glad that LeBron James didn't come to Charlotte.. we might have ended up with the King James roller coaster.. a hornet wearing a crown with a face that resembled LeBron....

The beekeeper has been delivering that box to most of the Charlotte area media outlets. And there is a burned net inside, with a note that says too big to be contained. While they are hinting with a Hornets tease, I really think the name will turn out to be something else. A sign in the park says ferocious, which could mean some sort of monster.

I was at the park on Tuesday afternoon, and while riding the Hurler, I could see what could have been a few black (or dark blue/purple) supports in an area of the site that is practically impossible to get a good look at. They were rather small from what I could tell, so maybe if they are supports, they're for a low-speed section of the track?

Also, from looking at the footers that same day, I concluded as well that the hill will be straight out of the station.

EDIT: Forgot something: You know those signs in the Thrill Zone that say "Speed Limit 37 1/2"? I'm not sure how long those have been there, but maybe they're hinting at the height of the coaster, which would mean either 307' 5", 337' 5", or (even better) 375'...

Just a couple points I'd like to dispute based on the last few pages:

Hornets are ferocious. So it doesn't have to be a sea monster or anything. And hornets are deadly too, far from "puny bugs" as someone put it, and I think it'd be a cool name. I still don't think we should rule out Fury yet though, that could be the name with a furious hornet mascot.

Who cares if the Charlotte Hornets move again? Even if this coaster's mascot is a hornet (or even if its downright called THE HORNET; which I'd like actually) there is no certainty that it would be totally themed to the NBA team. And if the team ever does leave Charlotte like before, the coaster would still be themed to the Carolinas as Charlotte is known as "the Hornet's Nest", as several memebers have noted. So there'd be no loss if the team did move... Not that anyone really would want it to.

All of the hints can't possibly point to the same thing. So how come they are being taken so literally. There's no chance this will be a Paranormal Roman Mutant Lightning Bee coaster.

My take on the teasers: Carowinds must be somewhat serious about the bee theme, If they took the time to rent the bee suits, buy the nets, burn the nets, theme the invitations, etc. I think this is a much bigger hint than anything else we've gotten so far. Maybe the burned parts were due to a literal sting? One that zaps and burns like electricity? A big furious Hornet that can burn its way through a typical net. Doesn't mean that's the theme, that's just what I personally took away from the hints.

I will be at Carowinds on the 10th and will try to take some pictures (probably not high quality since i'll probably be on the hurler and taking the pics on my iPhone) I have specifically instructed the group I am going with that we MUST ride hurler and drop zone. :)

Fury: unrestrained or violent anger, rage, passion
If you think about how charlotte got its nickname "hornets nest" then this comes to my mind. The people of the area showing act of anger, rage, and passion when driving out Lord Cornwallis and his troops. This screams Fury will be the name. I agree the hornet is such a whimpy thing to incorporate into a record breaking coaster but when you hear Fury i dont think you will be thinking about a hornet. When i hear gatekeeper i dont think of a bird then when you walk up and see the sign ect you see how it all ties together. This will tie in Charlotte with the park it has nothing to do with the basketball team in my opinion. Thats just my guess on things.
