I'll disagree with this. The barrel turn after the first drop is designed to minimize the chances of anyone graying out and maintain some speed due to the shaping of the turn. Leviathan's barrel turn is perfectly designed IMO; you don't come close to graying out and it maintains speed through that section pretty well due to how relatively drawn out it is. After the barrel turn you're going to be traveling at more than 75 mph, so it's not like the speed will disappear for long.

I took these two photos yesterday while flying over Carowinds before landing in Charlotte.
Anyone know what all that stuff is near the south entrance in the parking lot?

Its possible that it could be the materials for the new front gate.

I agree Jonathan. That is really the first photo I have seen that isn't distorted by camera angle and truly gives the scale of that ride. Fury is MASSIVE! Even on the opposite side of the park you can tell how it towers over everything else around it.

Great photo!

Yeah, that's my guess as well. I bet they are staging supplies for the new front entrance, gate, and all the other changes that the park said was coming for 2015. After the fury announcement numerous park officials said that they are touching every area of the park. Remember that they have a couple of bridges to build, etc., so there is still a lot of work to do. They are also doing parking lot work from my understanding so they need to stage stuff out of the way.

Jonathan wrote:It looks more comically tall than ever in that first photo.

At that angle it does since there is none of the park behind it. If you happened to get an air shot from the exact opposite angle it probably wouldn't appear so comical.

If they are for the front gate, why stage them so far away on the opposite end of the park. They have that whole parking lot in front of intimidator to put all that stuff and keep it close to where they are building.

Those are trailers stored at the south gate. TJ Maxx has a distribution center across the road and leases space at carowinds during the holiday season to store trailers that they do not have room for on their lot. They used to store them on the bus lot but since that is now where fury is located they may have relocated to the south gate.

ASU2009, thx. I can stop trying to enhance that pic now.

I don't know if its been all the rain but progress on the front entrance is going at a snails pace. btw, if you havn't noticed, they are now dumping dirt on the other side of the brand new toll plaza.

Also, all the footers are suppose to have been poured but what about the ones under the bridge? They just started working on that hole.
