General Carowinds discussion

My only annoyance with the Thrillcaster video was that the guy kept calling it "The Fury three twenty-five", when it's "Fury three two five". 8)

I feel like this battle will not easily be won with the GP though, sadly. That's why I dislike the numbers being in the name -everyone and their brother will be calling it something different for god knows how long... but I digress.

I would give this guy time and appreciate that he has the opportunity to bring updates from the park. I am looking forward to sharing his videos and talking about it.

Okay, so when the coaster is finished- will they still do a run through (as in manually guide the trains along the course). I can't recall the proper terminology, but I remember seeing an article about how Busch Gardens did that for Cheetah Hunt, but that was an Intiman Coaster (and of course far smaller). I don't really know if that is something they do on giga coasters, so could somebody explain that part of the testing process?

After studying the track for a few days and comparing to the animation a few times I really feel like, from the webcam view, the banks are more intense than the animation. It seems like they are at a higher degree than the animation. Can anyone whose seen it in person answer to this?

B&M doesn't often do a pull-through anymore. I'm not sure why they don't, but other companies still do. I would love to know the rationale behind both sides of the argument, but I've only seen speculation from the enthusiast community.

As for the angle of banking in the turns, I agree that the animation doesn't really tell the story of what is being put in the air over there. Of course, it was the same way when Intimidator 305 was built at KD. The animation (or even the on-ride videos) just doesn't prepare you for the intensity of the turns and especially the transitions. Do I think this will be as intense as I305? No, but it will be far from forceless.

The yellow crane has been holding the yellow bucket near the first turn. I assume they are torqueing bolts.

LOTS of truckloads.

Since both cams are essentially pointed in the same direction now, I think it would be cool to point camera 2 down slightly so we could see a bit of what's going on on the entrance bridge.

From what I can remember I don't think the trains are due to arrive until sometime in February.

As had been said before, I don't think parks do clearance pull through's with the train anymore because they are issued a "clearance envelope frame thingy" (my terminology of course, lol), but they don't use them unless it's necessary. I know Holiday World is using one for Thunderbird at the end of the launch where it passes the chimney and I'm guessing Carowinds will use one where Fury dives under the bridge, just to make sure. As far as I can tell, the first time the trains go around the track in any shape or form is when it's tested for the first time - which is usually at night in case something bad happens.

I haven't seen the track in person, but what you see in the animation is exactly how it will be in real life. Aside from the speed factor which can't really be accurately described in a animation, everything from the colors to the layout is pulled from a set of architectural drawings and specs given to the animator.

I assume this is just like any other construction project and there isn't a 'front gate crew' but rather many different subcontractors. Some are concrete workers who do foundations and floors, some are masons, some electricians, plumbers, construction, etc. At each phase there are points where they have to wait for concrete to dry, other contractors to finish their work, etc. To me it looks like a normal construction site. The number of moving parts required to coordinate something like this is mind numbing.

Thank you. I couldn't remember what was said.

I believe it's called a reach envelope.

Here is a post from page 137 that should be helpful on this topic

DavidW wrote:B&M doesn't do that with their coasters, they do a much easier and efficient method. They use a test gauge like the one hanging from Banshees track in this pic
