Media day is going to be 3/25!

Wow, I just got that. :) They are really going all out with the number "325."

Wow, I should have went. I can't wait for Opening Day!

Yea, I'm kicking myself for missing this. I originally had a conflict but that got canceled with enough time that I could have attended.

See my mention of this a few posts back... We were told they were doing buffing/polishing at the rail joins (for a smoother transition and ride) and were then applying a primer. They would then repaint those areas.

There was even a guy rapelling on a cable about 2/3 down the tallest support before the drop doing painting!

This pic show Carowinds' head of maintenance who was very knowledgeable and friendly and gave the tour... The Travel Channel cameraman is off to the left, with the sound mic visible but not the person holding it... They interviewed some people on camera also... hard to say how much will make it past the cutting room floor :)

The picnic area in the background was one of several that they wrap and heat to do maintenance in the winter on equipment because they don't have enough dedicated maintenance areas.

Axel wrote:The Travel Channel was there filming the event for a show... The food was awesome... We got to touch the track but were told not to touch the rails as lots of spots were just painted... they were buffing where they joined and we could see many places were primed awaiting paint. Mike also said that Clermont Steel Fabricators told him the rails ARE filled with sand. (I'd rather the noise!)

Interesting... Not saying Mike is wrong, but this question was asked during the construction tour and the head of maintenance who was leading the tour said that they are NOT filled with sand. Now I'm not sure if they will or won't have sand.

Does anyone know for sure if Intimidator does or does not. I figure if Fury 325 has the same sound as Intimidator, then we can assume it's track is built in a similar manner.

Right after the Maintenance Head said that, he called out to Mike and that was when Mike said that when he was just at Clermont, they told him the rails were filled with sand. I wish they weren't.

Some other facts they gave out...

  • B&M's team was comprised of 50 engineers working for 12 months on the dynamic design, engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • The steel fabrication took approximately one year requiring 200 skilled workers to complete
  • 192 track elements that must fit precisely together end-to-end held by 15,500 high strength bolts.

^^^ In addition to those:
-They found 4 different footers for the old monorail during construction.
-Both Fury and Slingshot should be ready for opening day.
-There are 3 lines for Fury, Fast lane, regular, and handicapped. No single rider.
-There will be no season pass parking places (the old place is now the bus lot). However, there will be parking available directly in front of the park to grab if you are there early.
-There is going to be a Coke Marketplace where the two game stalls were removed in front of Fury.
-There will be a Fury plaza like Intimidator's "Winner's Circle".
-There will be NO TUNNEL at the bottom of the first drop.
-3 different buildings/game stalls were taken down for Slingshot.
-The "ROCK shop" will be changed to a shop called "thrills".
-Juke Box Diner will be getting a revamp/expansion because of large crowds next year.
-There are indeed seat belts on Fury (like Intimidator).

I hope the Juke Box Diner gets renamed/themed as "Coasters Drive In", like Cedar Point has. I always thought that was a cool theme and most of the existing theme wouldn't really need to be altered much.

GP complains calling Carowinds unfair and saying they won't ever go the park again. Geez, it's all for a great future!

Half or more of those that say that will return. I remember saying that back in 2006 and by 2011 I was back. I said I wouldn't return for a few months in 2006 then by end of the season, I was craving some Carowinds!

Would these be the ones just to the side of Scream Weaver? If so, gotta say I'll be a little bit bummed. Yes, I know they were never open, but they were a great place to sit while watching my kids spin themselves sick on the Scream Weaver.

And THANKS to everyone for your great information and pictures from today's event. It's MUCH appreciated! :D

Sooooo... are we getting the same marketplace as Kings Island? Sorry if this comes off as a dumb question.
