Alright here we go!

The day started out with awesome presentations and a surprise for not only us, but practically for the park staff too, as Mike mentioned that they weren't expecting to have any trains on site until sometime in February. Props to the amazing B&M for staying on top of the game.

Let me take a second to rant about the food. Wow. Carowinds claims that they want to make a big impression in this area this year, and from what I've experienced so far (Fury announcement day & WWU today) they are more than delivering. Today I feasted on the Brunswick stew with rice. It was incredible! Not only is the food great though, their presentation of the food is superb. Some of the people I sat with today (Non CC members from northern Virginia) commented that if this was what was being offered, they would no doubt eat in the park! The uniqueness of this food will surely become a staple for guests in the coming years!

After food and fun prizes, we headed out the back entrance of Harmony Hall, directly under Intimidator, to start the construction tour!

Image
I still love you Intimidator. And I'll still come visit, I promise. It's just. That other thing over there. Well. You wouldn't understand.

I recommend not attempting this once the park opens.

Interesting fact. Most parks don't have enough rooms in their maintenance buildings to store all their coaster cars, so they use picnic shelters!

Hurler, you're looking a little dwarfed today.

The site of our future Slingshot. Ours will be 60 meters (197 ft) tall. The one at Cedar Point is 72 meters (236 ft).

The lockers will be located directly under the turn into the station. There will be upwards of 400 PIN code style lockers here.

Other highlights of the day.
- Rock Shop in Thrill Zone is getting a facelift and being renamed (to Thrills if I remember correctly).
- Jukebox Diner is also getting a facelift.
- Travel Channel was filming the event and have been filming the entire construction process of Fury 325 and plan on releasing an hour-long documentary on it this spring/summer.
- Fury will have a normal line, fast lane, and handicapped. (No single rider line :( )

Thanks Josh, Carowinds, Dollywood, Alabama's Splash Adventure and all the parks represented today. I had a blast and look forward to seeing everyone again in March!

Here's a link to my FULL WWU album + a video of the train unveiling! Winter Warm Up Flickr
(It's my new Flickr because I couldn't for the life of me remember my username and password for the old one  )

Had a great day yesterday...

- craving the pull pork spring rolls now
- really digging the free tickets to sfft and dw
- love how accessible the park personnel is...even when they are being haggled lol
- Alan's commentary throughout the presentations was a show in itself.
- first time seeing FURY 325 in person...HE is a huge coaster
- I miss max... :(
- love all the events the park is doing to keep people coming thru the gates
- love how all the parks have the "we're in this together" attitude instead of one of stark competition.
- lots of "speculating" going on...
- I haven't met a HD video camera I haven't liked yet...
- cant wait to hang out with everyone again
- looking forward to the next warm up at Dollywood!!!!!!

Serious? :eh:

Anyhow, it was a pretty awesome time yesterday. To see the construction up close was awe inspiring. Everyone was accessible, easy to talk with and I believe they were excited as us for the future of Carowinds.

A couple quick things. Umm, Fury 325 has lovely curves which only means one thing. (Group discussion last night)

Wormy...I'm lovin the McBathroom picture! :)

Did anyone happen to take a photo of the discounts for our region parks that Josh showed? Or possibly make note of them? I thought I did, but I must've missed it. Feel free to PM it to me if you want.

Also, Josh, would you be willing to share a link to the tribute you did for Max? I bet some of the people who weren't able to attend would like to see it.

Thanks!

ETA - I agree with MarkD about Fury's lovely curves. Something that awe-inspiring has to be female. ;)

I've seen a couple mentions of lockers. Are these going to be just for Fury, and work like those at Universal (Free for a certain length of time, in order to ride)? Will there be no bins at the load station for bags? I just want to be prepared for our first visit (and maybe just leave bags in the car). Thanks!
