General Carowinds discussion

Source: I worked at Hurler/Drop Zone in 2006. We could not take test rides until the state inspection was complete. B&M reps will certify maintenance and lower management then lower management will certify Area managers followed by team leaders and lastly ride ops. The state requires 200 cycles on each train before they will certify the ride safe for riders.

I know that Mike mentioned that each train will get at least 100 cycles from the Carowinds side of the operation after B&M gets done tweaking everything. With all of this said, what is the process to log all of these rides? Is it on the honor system, or does the park have to record the queue house footage of the process and also provide data from the system showing the successful runs?

It appears that the piece may go in this week - Friday is still the best guess, so here's to the great work the construction crew is doing on the ride project! Their long and hard hours are certainly appreciated!

I was kiddng.. I haven't shut up about this... Lines are the only things I'm not going to excited for...

Luckily, this ride took some time to construct - giving us ample time to save up extra cash to buy those coveted Fast Lane Plus passes throughout the season. Luck for us, fuel prices have dropped as well, so that is great!

The operator panel has a count on it.

That solves it... I just did not know if the state required more than just that. Plus, are we talking about just one certification or one per state?

I had the chance quite a few years back to talk with one of the guys over the NC state ride inspections. I asked him specifically about how things like this worked (with rides crossing the state line.) He basically said whichever state the station building is on, that state is in charge of inspecting the entire ride. Thunder Road is SC inspected, Goldrush is NC inspected and Fury will be NC inspected.

I assumed that it may be like that, but I did not know if the other state wanted to be part of the process, or if they push it all on the other side!

Another growing thought popped back in my head. While I agree that it appears that the queue line will not have great capacity (although, I think it will just look that way yet have massive capacity), I am wondering how long the line will be for Fury 325 on opening day.

Two things:

1. Assuming the weather is great, it appears that opening day is the start on the nearby kids' spring break, so I'd expect a great turnout, but will it be as big of a turnout as Banshee received at Kings Island? That line was massive.

2. Speaking of the line length, how long will the line spill out of the queue area on opening day? What route would you wrap the line? Would you wrap it around the Roc Shop and the theater towards the front, or would you wrap it across the area by Hurler, past Carolina Cyclone and towards the back? I know that KI moved the line around the Eiffel Tower, and that line was 7hrs-ish (4+ even for those with early entry but without Fast Lane Plus).

No. I doubt the line will extend past 1 hour. Carowinds' attendance is smaller than KI's by about 1 million people. I'm assuming the line will be more similar to Intimidator's opening day than Banshee's.

7 hrs? There's not a ride on the planet I would wait 7 hours for. I'd wait until late summer early on a weekday morning before doing that.

lets just hope the weather isn't great opening day so we can have manageable lines. I should be going.

Agree Agree Agree! No way! I can handle waiting until a slow time. I always try to choose times to go to a theme/amusement park when there are the least crowds. I once went on a weekend and vowed never to do that again.

They haven't moved CAM2 (and won't) because they are doing a super time lapse of the area and don't want to mess it up.
